SYNOPSIS

Italian actress-writer-director Asia Argento, daughter of famed genre director Dario, has spent much of her life in the spotlight and under the glare of media scrutiny. In her dark, voyeuristic and semi-autobiographical directorial debut,
SCARLET DIVA, Argento plays Anna Battista, a rising young actress who, despite her popularity and success, experiences despair and degradation at the hands of the film industry. Her harrowing journey towards redemption leads her on a sordid spree of excess across America and Europe while trying to recapture her innocence and find true love.

Newly restored in HD, Scarlet Diva has been applauded by audiences and critics alike since its original release nearly twenty years ago. In his New York Times theatrical review, A.O. Scott called the film "weirdly fascinating... curiously moving" and, for the Los Angeles Times, Manohla Dargis wrote that it "has more guts and energy than much of what will open this year." Joe Bob Briggs said it is "raw, visceral, super-charged with the darkest of dark emotions" and G. Allen Johnson called it an "astounding work" of "full-throated rage against the international filmmaking machine."
