A Joyful Assault on the Senses: 6th Annual Edgewater Arts Festival Offers So Much to See, Hear, Smell and Taste!


Neighborhood arts festival immerses families in the art and culture of Edgewater
Thousands Expected to Hit the Streets this September for a True Showcase


Music and art, in all its forms, will be on visible and tangible display during the 6th Annual Edgewater Arts Festival, September 29-30, from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood. The festival is a family-oriented event that is a feast for the senses, full of sights, sounds, smells and flavors that showcase the incredible cultural diversity and artistic talent that make up this rich and unique northside neighborhood.

Hosted by Edgewater Artists in Motion, the Festival takes place at 1030-1140 W. Granville Ave., between Broadway St. and Sheridan Rd. (just off the “L” Red Line Granville Stop). Admission cost is a suggested donation of $5. The event includes art, live music, craft beers, and food from Granville Avenue restaurants.
 
100 Chicago-based artists, selected by juried process, will exhibit original works in painting, drawing, photography, hand-made jewelry, glasswork, illustration, pottery, mixed media and functional/wearable art. Featured artists include: Photographs by Kevin Flynn, Paintings by Melanie Dix, Surreal Work by Daniel Johnson, Wearable Art by Jaleh Malakooti, and Handcrafted Sustainable Furniture by Paul Segedin.


3 stages of eclectic live music: Co-headliners will be Great Moments in Vinyl, featuring music of the Beatles, David Bowie and Fleetwood Mac, and La Tosca, featuring Italian and Latin influences. Twenty acts and 50+ performers spanning jazz, reggae, blues, funk, flamenco, African drumming, Americana, pop/rock, classical music, barbershop and choir singing will create a rich musical backdrop for the two-day event.


Beer and Wine Garden, with craft beer and Arrogant Frog Wine from France and food from Fireside Restaurant & Lounge.


Young Artists’ Gallery, with artworks and performances from 11 area schools.


Local Business Showcase, highlighting area businesses.

“The festival is a fantastic family event because there is so much to see and experience,” said Rae Ann Cecrle, president of Edgewater Artists in Motion.  “The array of art is a feast for the eyes. The variety of music is pure joy for the ears. We love seeing how families interact with the artists at this event. It truly draws our community together.”
A hospitality room will be available in the recently opened Gallery 1070, an art gallery located at 1070 Granville Ave. Visitors are encouraged to explore the Gallery’s beautiful setting to rest in the air conditioning, relax, and enjoy the art displays.

The party continues after the festival closes on Saturday night.  Great Moments in Vinyl will perform an intimate concert at Gallery 1070 performing Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” album in its entirety to 100 attendees. Your $20 donation includes the concert plus, two glasses of Arrogant Frog, the featured fine French wine of the festival.
