Arriving on DVD with the Bonus Short "Sacrilege"

SYNOPSIS

From Oscar®-Nominated director Jan Hřebejk (Divided We Fall) and loosely inspired by true events, THE TEACHER is a dark comedy about a delightfully nasty middle school teacher you'll not soon forget.  Zuzana Mauréry received universal acclaim as Comrade Drazdechova, who uses her students to manipulate their parents for her own gain.  Called "needle sharp... [featuring] one of the most intense PTA meeting of all time" by Indiewire, THE TEACHER arrives on DVD and Digital January 9, 2018 following Film Movement's theatrical release.

Czechoslovakia, 1983. Middle school teacher Maria Drazdechova (Mauréry) greets her new students by asking each to announce what his or her parents do for a living.  Soon, it becomes apparent that her pupils' grades are tied to how helpful their families can be with favors, both big and small. While this does not sit well with many parents, others are willing to play along because Ms. Drazdechova is also a high-ranking official of the Communist Party.  Now, with the futures of their children at stake, each family must decide whether they are willing to maintain the status quo or stand up against the corrupt system.

The Sword and The Claw new 4k transfer from AGFA

Alamo Drafthouse's American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) to release brand new 4k transfer of THE SWORD AND THE CLAW

January 23rd Blu-ray release transferred from the only theatrical print in existence

Alamo Drafthouse's American Genre Film Archive, the largest non-profit genre film archive in the world, is excited to announce a January 23, 2018 release date for THE SWORD AND THE CLAW on Blu-ray.
They took his money. They took his family. And now, they've taken his hands. But they can never take his revenge! Exploding from the same hallucinogenic netherworld as TURKISH STAR WARS, THE SWORD AND THE CLAW stars Turkish genre legend Cüneyt Arkin in his most iconic role. It's CONAN THE BARBARIAN meets The Three Stooges meets DOLEMITE with more lo-fi bloodshed, pop-art visuals, and bizarro dubbing than the boundaries of reality can handle. This is the movie that Kung-Fu Express described as, "Dirtiest fighting ever!"

"We've been obsessed with Turkish genre films for decades," said AGFA director Joe Ziemba. "We were blown away to discover that we had the only known 35mm print in existence for this movie, which also happens to be Turkey's most insane battle epic. This is the first 4K preservation of a Turkish genre film in history. We couldn't be happier to share it with the world."

Special features include:
- New 4K scan from the only surviving 35mm theatrical print!
- Face-smashing action trailers from the AGFA vault!
- Bonus Movie: BRAWL BUSTERS, a new 2K scan from an original theatrical print!
- Reversible cover art with illustration by Alexis Ziritt (SPACE RIDERS)!

SHADOWMAN, an Acclaimed Doc About the Enigmatic Artist Who Launched the Street Art Movement, Arrives on DVD

THIS JANUARY, JOIN FILM MOVEMENT FOR A "COMPELLING" DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE ENIGMATIC ARTIST WHO LAUNCHED THE STREET ART MOVEMENT SHADOWMAN Street Date: January 2, 2018

SYNOPSIS

Before Banksy, there was Hambleton.  In the 1980s, Richard Hambleton was the Shadowman, a specter in the night who painted hundreds of startling silhouettes on the walls of lower Manhattan and, along with Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, sparked the street art movement. After drug addiction and homelessness sent him spinning out of the art scene for 20 years, Hambleton gets a second chance...but will he take it?  Following its acclaimed theatrical release, SHADOWMAN, a New York Times Critic's Pick from Oscar®-nominated director Oren Jacoby (Sister Rose's Passion, Constantine's Sword), arrives on DVD on January 2, 2018.

SHADOWMAN plunges the viewer into the chaotic life of a forgotten artist, from early fame as a painter and denizen of the Lower East Side, through his struggles with heroin, to his surprising comeback as street art exploded to become one of the most popular and lucrative art movements in the world.   Featuring rare footage of 1980s music and art, which bring to the screen an indelible portrait of New York City from a lost, transformative time, SHADOWMAN is a trip down a rabbit hole into the mystifying, agonizing, exhilarating, and sometimes frightening, world of a brilliant artist in the thrall of creation and addiction.

Earl Douglas of The Interrobang calls SHADOWMAN "a fitting epitaph for an art world giant," Peter Goldberg of Slant Magazine says the doc is [an] art-world fairy tale unafraid to face the bitter details of its hero's tumultuous life," and Culture Sonar calls it "A fascinating (and frankly, heart-wrenching) documentary about this remarkable artist".

STRAIGHT EDGE: A Clear-Headed Hardcore Punk History, by Tony Rettman

STRAIGHT EDGE: A Clear-Headed Hardcore Punk History by Tony Rettman

Deluxe 400-page softcover book with foreword by Civ of Gorilla Biscuits

This deluxe softcover runs 400 pages, features a foreword by Civ of Gorilla Biscuits, includes a full-color insert, and after is available HERE. This is the latest authoritative and exhaustive leap by Bazillion Points into the vast demi-world of a powerful DIY subculture. Launch events were mobbed at the Sonos NYC store, Bridge 9 Records in Boston, and Hold Fast Records in Asbury Park, NJ, where Tony Rettman sat for a riveting Q&A with Minor Threat's Brian Baker.

Starting in 1981 via Minor Threat's revolutionary call to arms, the clean and positive straight edge hardcore punk movement took hold and prospered during the 1980s, earning a position as one of the most durable yet chronically misunderstood music subcultures. Straight edge created its own sound and visual style, went on to embrace vegetarianism, and later saw the rise of a violent militant fringe. As the "don't drink, don't smoke" message spread from Washington, D.C., to Boston, California, New York City, and, eventually, the world, adherents struggled to define the fundamental ideals and limits of what may be the ultimate youth movement.

Tony Rettman traces the story of straight edge from adolescent origins to enduring counterculture via fresh first-hand accounts from the clear and alert members of Minor Threat, SS Decontrol, Youth of Today, DYS, Slapshot, Uniform Choice, 7 Seconds, Stalag 13, Justice League, Chain of Strength, No for an Answer, Insted, Gorilla Biscuits, Judge, Bold, Project X, Lärm, Brotherhood, Shelter, H2O, Half Off, Resurrection, Raid, Strife, Earth Crisis, Vegan Reich, Mindset, Stop and Think, Mouthpiece, Floorpunch, Ten Yard Fight, Mental, Fucked Up, Trial, Have Heart, Praise, Clear, the Geeks, and many others.

Time Out New York calls the book: "a trip through the storied history of the straight edge punk movement, from its origins in 1981 as a call-to-arms from the band Minor Threat to its later flourishing as a fully-fledged counter-culture manifesto."

QUOTES

"What separates hardcore from punk is that punk was just saying, 'fkck this place.' Hardcore was saying, 'let's make a difference. Let's make our minds stronger and focus.'"
- Toby Morse, H2O

"We were out to create a revolution. We loved the power and energy of hardcore, but not the whole self-destructive punk ethos. We were into being healthy and living clean, mean, and smart."
- John Porcelly, Youth of Today

"Straight edge became a religion. It's a very strange feeling to be one of the unwitting founders of this religion."
- Jeff Nelson, Minor Threat

"I'm honored to be part of this book, which accurately recalls a counterculture within a counterculture, a movement that changed the course of so many people's lives, including my own. Straight edge gave us some stable footing and handrails in a confusing time, and provided us a soundtrack of hard, positive, and life-affirming music to craft our progressive and positive adult lives. This book will serve as a crucial and authoritative glance into that world, shining light for fans around the globe on a time that we will never forget."
- Ray Cappo, Youth of Today

"I fxcking loved it! The SSD stuff was amazing, they were my game changer. I also really loved the Uniform Choice chapters. It's a great book. Tony Rettman has done it again, and I'm stoked to have a small part in it."
- Mike Ferraro, Judge

"I will look forward to having this on our coffee table and showing it and reading it with pride for my role in this beautiful movement, for what you've done and captured, and what straight edge was, is and will be."
- Dave Smalley of DYS/All/Dag Nasty

"Tony Rettman's book is THE CHOICE for a firsthand account of the history, inner workings, and real truth of straight edge, one of the most important cultural influences of the last century."
- Al Barile, SSD

"A fantastic read and a true documentation straight from the people who made this small scene an important piece of music history."
- Dennis Lyxzen, Refused

"I love this book! Everyone's stories are tied together to bring validity to the subject. Rettman covered a lot of ground here, and I'm impressed."
- Steve Larson, Insted

New from Arrow Video US and Arrow Academy US

New from Arrow Video US and Arrow Academy US

PULP Blu-ray and DVD (12/12)

Whiskey Galore! Blu-ray and DVD(12/12)

Donnie Darko [Limited Edition Steelbook] (Blu-ray) (12/12)

The Apartment - Limited Edition (12/26)

via MVD Entertainment Group
Get ready for the festive season as Arrow release four new titles across their labels in December.

First up, two titles from Arrow Video. Michael Caine and Mike Hodges, the star and director of British classic Get Carter, reunite for 1972's Pulp, a crime comedy about a paperback writer inadvertently drawn into the world he writes about. The DVD and Blu-ray release of this neglected gem (a favourite of author J.G. Ballard) features a brand new, and long overdue, 2K restoration from original film elements, supervised and approved by director of photography Ousama Rawi, produced by Arrow exclusively for this release.

The second title is a Limited Edition Steelbook release of Richard Kelly's debut masterpiece Donnie Darko. This release contains their brand-new 4k restoration of the Theatrical cut as supervised and approved by Richard Kelly himself, plus a whole host of fantastic extra features and a 20-page collector's booklet featuring writing on the film by critic and author Nathan Rabin.

Meanwhile, Arrow Academy will release The Apartment, starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine in Oscar-nominated performances as a couple who start an unlikely romance in late-1950s Manhattan. A note perfect production that went on to win Best Picture at the 1961 Academy Awards, many regard this as Billy Wilder's best work.

Finally, Arrow Films release the recent remake of Whisky Galore!, starring Ellie Kendrick (Game of Thrones), James Cosmo (Game of Thrones) and stand-up comedian Eddie Izzard (Hannibal). This charming and heart-warming tale of a Scottish island community is based on a true story during World War II and the story was previously told in the classic Ealing comedy of the same name.

PULP Blu-ray and DVD (12/12)

A year after they'd created one of the defining British gangster pictures with Get Carter, three Michaels - writer-director Mike Hodges, producer Michael Klinger and star Michael Caine - reunited for another crime picture, albeit with a more oddball flavor...

Caine plays Mickey King, a successful pulp novelist responsible for such titles as My Gun Is Long and The Organ Grinder, who is invited to ghost-write the autobiography of a mystery celebrity. His client turns out to be a former actor, played by Mickey Rooney, well-known for his gangster roles and real-life gangster connections - but death is around the corner, and King finds his commission to be a lot more complicated than he first imagined.

A favorite of J.B. Ballard, Pulp has long existed in the shadow of its predecessor. Tonally, it could not be more different - Get Carter never had the time for sight gags and one-liners - but it's a real gem in its own right and fully deserving of a wider audience. This brand-new restoration from Arrow Films aims to right than wrong.

Whiskey Galore! Blu-ray and DVD (12/12)

Whisky Galore! is the charming and heart-warming tale of a community of Islanders on a remote Scottish Island during WW2 coming together to relieve a sinking ship of its amber cargo.

Based on the true story of the cargo ship SS Politician running aground off the coast of Eriskay in 1941 and the ensuing battle between the Excise Men and the locals trying to salvage the lucrative cargo, that of 50,000 cases of Whiskey . The shipwreck and its cargo was like manna from heaven to the Islanders, whose island was totally 'dry', without any type of alcohol, which some would say is part of the life blood of the Scottish Islands!

Eddie Izzard, Gregor Fisher, Sean Biggerstaff, James Cosmo, Ellie Kendrick, Kevin Guthrie and Naomi Battrick stars in this charming remake of the Ealing classic!

Donnie Darko [Limited Edition Steelbook] (Blu-ray) (12/12)

I WANT YOU TO WATCH THE MOVIE SCREEN.

THERE'S SOMETHING I WANT TO SHOW YOU.

Fifteen years before Stranger Things combined science-fiction, Spielberg-ian touches and 80s nostalgia to much acclaim, Richard Kelly set the template - and the high-water mark - with his debut feature, Donnie Darko. Initially beset with distribution problems, it would slowly find its audience and emerge as arguably the first cult classic of the new millennium. Donnie is a troubled high school student: in therapy, prone to sleepwalking and in possession of an imaginary friend, a six-foot rabbit named Frank, who tells him the world is going to end

in 28 days 06 hours 42 minutes and 12 seconds. During that time he will navigate teenage life, narrowly avoid death in the form of a falling jet engine, follow Frank's maladjusted instructions and try to maintain the space-time continuum.

Described by its director as "The Catcher in the Rye as told by Philip K. Dick", Donnie Darko combines an eye-catching, eclectic cast - pre-stardom Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, heartthrob Patrick Swayze, former child star Drew Barrymore, Oscar nominees Mary McDonnell and Katherine Ross, and television favourite Noah Wyle - and an evocative soundtrack of 80s classics by Echo and the Bunnymen, Tears for Fears and Duran Duran. This brand-new 4K restoration, carried out exclusively for this release by Arrow Films, allows a modern classic to finally receive the home video treatment it deserves.

The Apartment - Limited Edition (12/26)

In 1960, following on from the success of their collaboration on Some Like it Hot, director Billy Wilder (Ace in the Hole, Sunset Boulevard) reteamed with actor Jack Lemmon (The Odd Couple, Glengarry Glen Ross) for what many consider the pinnacle of their respective careers: The Apartment.

C.C. "Bud" Baxter (Lemmon) is a lowly Manhattan office drone with a lucrative sideline in renting out his apartment to adulterous company bosses and their mistresses. When Bud enters into a similar arrangement the firm's personnel director, J.D. Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray, Double Indemnity), his career prospects begin to look up... and up. But when he discovers that Sheldrake's mistress is Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine, Irma la Douce), the girl of his dreams, he finds himself forced to choose between his career and the woman he loves...

Winner of five Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, The Apartment features a wealth of Hollywood's finest talent - on both sides of the camera - at the top of their game. The Theta Girl, a new indie gore thriller, is hitting film festivals this Winter

THE THETA GIRL, a new independent micro-budget gore thriller, ravages festival circuit this Winter

The Theta Girl, a feature film produced by first-time filmmakers David Axe and Christopher Bickel, is coming to film circuits this Winter.

The film had its world-premiere in Atlanta on Friday the 13th of October at midnight -- a fitting time slot for opening what director Christopher Bickel calls "a brutally violent existential horror film." At the Atlanta screening, several audience members walked out of the film following one shocking scene depicting a violent home invasion. The audience members who remained were very vocal and enthusiastic about their enjoyment and appreciation of the film, one audience member writing in a comment online: "Holy sh*t! Talk about a low-budget MASTERPIECE. A gory drug-induced mystery! A psychedelic B Movie thriller! Roger Corman-esque Punk cinema that's WAY better and smarter than it should be! A++++++"

The Theta Girl was produced on a shoestring budget of $14,000. To put that budget into perspective, the film could have been made 3,571 times over for what it cost Hollywood to make one Emoji Movie. It is the first film for Axe and Bickel, and indeed it was the first film for the majority of cast and crew. Though the film exhibits some rough edges as a result of its extremely low budget and the experience level of the creators, it has been enthusiastically praised for its high entertainment value, thoughtful existential themes, and shocking content.

The film has already received accolades from critics. One critic gushing "not only is it possibly the best independent film of 2017 but possibly one of the best examples of low budget filmmaking EVER!" (full review HERE)

Venerated Indie Film magazine Film Threat gave The Theta Girl high marks calling it "edgy, thoughtful, quality entertainment." (full review HERE)

Billed as an "existenploitation film," The Theta Girl follows the trials and tribulations of young drug-dealer, Gayce Delko, and the hallucinogen she peddles. "Theta" was a "fun drug" -- a drug that blew people's minds. Theta was supposed to be a door to Heaven, but when her best friends get methodically and brutally murdered, Gayce realizes theta might also be a door to Hell -- and it's up to her to shut it. The film's tagline is "She brought the pills. He brought the kills."

Bickel describes The Theta Girl as "an exercise in sex, drugs, punk rock, brutality, gore, revenge, and self-actualization... but really it's an art film."

The Theta Girl was written by David Axe and directed by Christopher Bickel, who also shot, edited, and provided sound-design for the film. Axe and Bickel also served as the film's producers under the "Barron Perter Productions" moniker. The film stars Victoria Elizabeth as "Gayce," Shane Silman as "Brother Marcus," and Darrelle D. Dove as "Derek."

The film has not been rated by the MPAA, but it contains nudity, drug use, adult themes, and extremely graphic violence.

PRESS QUOTES

"You'll be exhausted or exhilarated, turned off or turned on, but you won't be bored. If your assaulted senses recover by the time the final credits roll, you may even swell with admiration"
-- Rodney Welch, Free Times

"The Theta Girl raises the bar on the modern indie film"
-- Dave Koenig, Fiendish Magazine

"Raw, unflinching and unapologetic"
-- Cherry Bombed, Dangerous Minds

"Possibly the best independent film of 2017 but possible one of the best examples of low budget filmmaking EVER!"
-- Zeda Muller, Medallion Films

"This film explodes onto the screen like the lovechild of Ted V. Mikels and Jodorowsky, skull-fucks you like a tag team of Blue Sunshine and Blood Feast, and when it's done you will say, "Thank you, may I have another.""
- Psycho Drive-In

"Far, far better than it has any right to be... This is the kind of movie that microbudget indie producers should be studying to up their filmmaking game."
-- The Slaughtered Bird

ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS
The film is written by David Axe, journalist and editor of the website War Is Boring. The film is directed by Christopher Bickel, former Maximum RocknRoll writer, current staff writer at Dangerous Minds, and curator of the "First Friday Lowbrow Cinema Explosion" series at The Nickelodeon. The two produced the film with their own money and money raised via a successful crowd-funding campaign.

Ed Wood's "The Violent Years" new 4k transfer from AGFA

Alamo Drafthouse's American Genre Film Archive and Something Weird
announce brand new 4k transfer of Ed Wood's THE VIOLENT YEARS

Coming to Blu-ray on November 21st

Alamo Drafthouse's American Genre Film Archive, the largest non-profit genre film archive in the world, and Something Weird are excited to announce an November 21st release of THE VIOLENT YEARS on Blu-ray. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, AGFA purchased a 4K film scanner to create new digital transfers of titles from the Something Weird library. THE VIOLENT YEARS is the third release of dozens in this partnership, following THE ZODIAC KILLER and BAT PUSSY.

Written by legendary Hollywood outsider Edward D. Wood, Jr. (PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, GLEN OR GLENDA), THE VIOLENT YEARS is the story of Paula Parkins (Jean Moorehead), a good-girl-gone-bad who leads her degenerate teenage hellcats down a path of gas station hijackings, pajama party orgies, and cold-blooded murder! From Wood's patently deranged dialogue to the scene where the gang performs a "man attack," THE VIOLENT YEARS is an essential exposé on crime, gender politics, and sweater-stealing. Remember, "This is a story of violence!"

"Ed Wood's influence is woven into our DNA," said AGFA director Joe Ziemba. "We're honored to help the world reassess his importance as a ground-breaking queer filmmaker through our release of THE VIOLENT YEARS with Something Weird. Wherever he is, we hope Ed is smiling."

Special features include:

- Commentary track with filmmaker Frank Henenlotter (BASKET CASE, FRANKENHOOKER) and Ed Wood biographer Rudolph Grey!

D.O.A.: A Right Of Passage coming to Theaters and Blu-ray + DVD

D.O.A.: A Right Of Passage

coming to Theaters in November and Blu-ray + DVD December 8

Brand-new HD transfer of classic punk rockumentary following the
Sex Pistols 1978 tour... Available for the first time.
"D.O.A. is as much of a Woodstock as punk may ever inspire."
- The New York Times

"D.O.A. features state-of-the-art performances...
Still, it's the eerie Spungen-Vicious dialogue that will probably haunt most viewers."
- Rolling Stone

D.O.A.: A Right Of Passage is the ground-breaking classic rockumentary about the origin of punk rock. The film will be coming to select theaters in mid-November, and will also be available in a collector's edition Blu-ray + DVD package.

"High Times is pleased to finally uncover and restore this extraordinary, vintage film - D.O.A.," said High Times owner and CEO Adam Levin.

The vision for the film can be attributed to two people: Tom Forcade (the founder of High Times magazine) and filmmaker Lech Kowalski (East of Paradise). The production centered around the Sex Pistols 1978 tour of the US, which ended with the group breaking up. Forcade and Kowalski followed the band with handheld cameras through the clubs and bars during their seven-city U.S. tour.

Mixing this with footage of other contemporary bands, trends in the fashion capitals and punks of all shapes and colors, the film makers captured a grainy, stained snapshot of the punk movement at its peak (which includes the now famous footage of Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen in bed) along with rare interview and concert footage of the late seventies punk rock music scene.

As John Holmstrom, Founding Editor of PUNK Magazine, writes in his liner notes:
"D.O.A., the original 1950 film noir and A Rite of Passage's namesake, was about a dead man walking who wanted to get revenge on his killers. This aptly describes D.O.A.: A Rite of Passage, which was made by a man who killed himself a few months later, who wanted to get revenge on his tormentors: corporate and government control of rock music and youth culture."

With live performances by the Sex Pistols, The Dead Boys, Generation X (with Billy Idol), The Rich Kids, the X-Ray Spex, and Sham 69, along with additional music from The Clash, Iggy Pop, this iconic documentary is now available for the first time ever on disc!

Many take the Senator for a madman as gradually, all his friends and relatives turn away from him. Eventually the Senator meets a mysterious girl in the streets who seems to be his guardian angel but soon, everything he talked about in Moscow begins to come true, triggering panic in Russia and around the world.
