Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Killer Klowns From Outer Space with a Bacchanalian Circus Celebration and Fan Tribute on May 19, 2018 at The Montalban Theater (1615 Vine St. Los Angeles, CA 90028, tickets at http://bit.ly/2GmJmnU).

America’s fascination with Killer Klowns From Outer Space began on screen in 1988, as a group of clown-like aliens land their trans-dimensional space ship and terrorize a small American town. The film has achieved cult status with its clever blend of horror, science fiction and comedy.

“Clowns can be frightening, bizarre and terrifying. We took that primordial fear and put it in a Sci-Fi movie,” explained composer John Massari.  “You have something that should make you happy and laugh, but now it will kill and eat you and… it’s from outer space! Who would have dreamed of this? That’s the craziest idea in the world.”  Over time the film has earned generations of fans – many of whom Massari has connected with both through social media and at conventions leading him to create this special celebration of all things Killer Klowns.

For the 30th Anniversary, Massari has created a three-ring Sci-Fi/Horror celebration, reuniting an amazing line-up of special guests, including the film’s creators, the Chiodo Brothers, musical guests The Dickies, stars Grant Cramer and Suzanne Snyder.

At 6PM, the Kosmic Klown circus celebration will begin with stilt walkers, balloon folding artist Buster Balloon Cadwell, contortionist Bonnie Morgan, plus fortune tellers, strong men and women, magicians, body art, fan arts and crafts, and of course the Killer Klowns.  There will be a pre-show Q&A at 7PM featuring Stephen Chiodo (writer/director), Charles Chiodo (writer/art director), Edward Chiodo (writer/producer), Grant Cramer (Mike Tobacco), Suzanne Snyder (Debbie Stone), members of The Dickies, and composer John Massari, moderated by Jim Branscome of Cinematic Void.

Following the Q&A, at 8PM, the film will be screened with it’s original musical score performed live by The Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Massari.  LA's very own original punk rockers, The Dickies, will perform their enduring classic Killer Klowns From Outer Space theme song.
Stephen Chiodo declares, “Whoopdee God Damned De Do!! What a fantastic way to celebrate a 30 year anniversary surrounded by fans, John’s incredible score and the Dickies.”

Varèse Sarabande Records will be releasing a new recording of the soundtrack on CD and LP, available for sale at the concert.  The album features the original score performed by members of The Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, with new orchestrations by Massari and Bernhard Eder. The Dickies recorded a BRAND NEW version of the film’s theme song featuring an extra creepy intro followed by their signature pure punk energized sound.

“For 30 years, love and loyalty from fans the world over made this extraordinary movie a beloved cult classic,” said Massari.  “This event is our way to celebrate Killer Klowns From Outer Space directly with these fans.”

RiffTrax Makes Sci-Fi Sushi Out of ‘Space Mutiny’ in Movie Theaters Nationwide For Two Nights This June

RiffTrax Makes Sci-Fi Sushi Out of ‘Space Mutiny’ in Movie Theaters Nationwide For Two Nights This June

RiffTrax and Fathom Events Present ‘RiffTrax Live: Space Mutiny’
on June 14 and 19 Only

RiffTrax is set to kick off a sidesplitting summer in cinemas nationwide with 1988’s “Space Mutiny.” The film was panned by Eccentric Cinema as "quite possibly the worst science fiction/space adventure film made in English," which makes it ripe for the hilarious mocking of RiffTrax’s Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill
Corbett (of Mystery Science Theater 3000® fame). In addition to the full feature, event attendees will be treated to one of RiffTrax’s beloved shorts.

Tickets for “RiffTrax Live: Space Mutiny” can be purchased at www.FathomEvents.com or participating theater box offices.

Presented in more than 700 select cinemas by RiffTrax and Fathom Events, “RiffTrax Live: Space Mutiny” screens live on Thursday, June 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. CT / 7:00 p.m. MT / 8:00 p.m. PT with an encore presentation on Tuesday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m. local time, through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN). For a complete list of theater locations, visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

One of the funniest films featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000 in the Emmy® Award nominated show's 11-year run, “Space Mutiny” is a hilariously bad sci-fi epic that's guaranteed to have you in stitches. Combine a wardrobe of spandex and tinfoil; a set boasting AstroTurf® and spray-painted floor buffers; and special effects that, well, aren't so special, and you've got one of the most hysterical cheeseball movies to ever come out of the '80s. Grab your friends and have a riot with this underground cult hit.

“Since 2009, RiffTrax has been creating hilarious and fun experiences for fans in movie theaters nationwide,” said Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt. “With ‘Space Mutiny,’ we know that Mike, Kevin and Bill will bring two nights of laughs to kick off the summer cinema season.”

"We're excited to revisit ‘Space Mutiny’ because not only was it a favorite of the MST3K audience, it was a favorite of the writers,” Michael J. Nelson of RiffTrax said. “And spending screen time with Reb Brown again will be like seeing an old friend. An old friend who wears shiny silver pants."

“RiffTrax Live: Space Mutiny” is the 27th original title event broadcast to movie theaters since Fathom Events and RiffTrax began their partnership in 2009.

Chicago Center for The Print Presents "Movie Poster Memories" March 9 - April 15, 2018

Chicago Center for The Print Presents "Movie Poster Memories" March 9 - April 15, 2018

Opening Reception Friday, March 9th 6-9PM

We present "Movie Poster Memories" in collaboration with Ray Ruggeri a local expert and film lover.

We are proud to present "Movie Posters Memories" in collaboration with Ray Ruggeri a local expert in the field of original movie posters and life long film lover. Ruggeri has collected original movie posters for 40 years & has a background in art history. The exhibition and sale featuring hundreds of original and vintage movie posters from around the world and spanning several decades. This is our 4th exhibition together.

"This exhibition features original movie posters, both foreign and domestic, highlighting many genres and spanning several decades. If Hollywood is the stuff which dreams are made of, then movie posters are their tangible counterparts," says Ruggeri.

These posters were created by unsung studio artists to capture a film's essence at a glance, to reflect the time, climate and society from which they sprang. Many of these memorable designs have remained long after their celluloid counterparts have faded. The most successful posters created the thrills, chills and excitement just as well as the films themselves.

Posters including movie posters were designed to be glued up in public places and thus destroyed by the weather or covered over by other posters. Today, however, they are considered true works of art. They reflect the changes in the visual arts. They belong to art history and thus are sought out by art lovers, poster collectors all over the world. Included in this show is a sampling of limited edition art prints created by movie poster artists of today for companies like Mondo.

Exhibition & sale runs through April 15th.

After 50 years, LO-FI SCI-FI Spoof BUCKY AND THE SQUIRRELS Comes to Theatres Starting January 26

DAUNTLESS STUDIOS RELEASES LONG-AWAITED SCi-FI ROCKUMENTARY BUCKY & THE SQUIRRELS

"The Greatest Rock Band Ever Frozen Alive for 50 Years"

WHAT IF Your Favorite Pop Band from 1968 Came Back To Life in 2018?

Find Out When Slapstick Feature by Writer/Director Allan Katz Arrives in Theatres Beginning January 26

Features Cameos by Jason Alexander, Richard Lewis, Mike Ferrell, and Raquel Castro

New Trailer Released

Dauntless Studios has announced the imminent theatrical release of their recent acquisition, the Lo-Fi, Sci-Fi spoof BUCKY & THE SQUIRRELS from Emmy®-nominated director, prolific writer/producer Allan Katz. The film will begin a 45-screen theatrical run beginning in the Midwest and spreading west on January 26, 2018. A national digital/DVD release will follow later in the spring.

From the college town of Appleton, Wisconsin (and his own imagination) comes a story 50 years in the making. Katz explains,

“Back in 1968, a one-hit wonder rock band from Appleton, Wisconsin vanished in a plane crash somewhere in the Swiss Alps. Now, 50 years later, the aircraft has just been discovered with the Squirrels still inside - frozen alive. After they've returned home, thawed, and are struggling to return to their former selves, the IRS arrests them for owing a half century of back taxes. To stay out of prison, the Squirrels have to prove they can pay the money back by convincing the government they're capable of performing once again. Unfortunately, they're not.”

Suspended animation is a rich seam in science-fiction lore. If you've seen LATE FOR DINNER, FOREVER YOUNG, GENESIS II or even SLEEPER, well, BUCKY AND THE SQUIRRELS is nothing like them. Never has the trope been deployed--with clever, creative uses of budget and execution--for artists as famously obscure as Bucky and The Squirrels.

Told as an extended news report (by obviously Appleton-proud newscaster “Steve Schmidt” (Mike Dittman) the film stars Josh Duvendeck, Kyle S. More, Matt Cook and Matt Shively as band mates Doug, Bucky, Randy and Phil, respectively. Lawrence University alumna Jill Lover plays a therapist who is charged with helping the Squirrels recover their physical and mental capacities—and musical chops—after five decades on ice. The film also features cameos by Jason Alexander, Richard Lewis, Mike Ferrell, and Raquel Castro recollecting THEIR fondest, if not always clear, memories of the Squirrels. The film made extensive use of Appleton’s Lawrence University Campus. A number of students served on the production, and former Lawrence University film studies director Catherine Tatge, has a producer credit on the film.

For his part, Allan Katz has a prodigious roster of writing, producing, and EP credits going back to Rowan Martin’s Laugh-In and other classics like Sanford and Son, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, M*AS*H, Rhoda, Roseanne and Blossom. He garnered an Emmy Nomination for writing for M*AS*H in 1977. In addition to writing, directing and producing BUCKY & THE SQUIRRELS, he has a supporting role as Mort Fishbeck, the Squirrels’ onetime and current manager.

Katz says, “The great part about making a film is getting to make it. The not so great part is the possibility of not having anyone see it. That’s why I was thrilled when Mark Sonoda of Dauntless Studios approached me and both loved and understood the film. So, we agreed to go into business with him to distribute it. When you write, direct and produce a film it’s like giving birth to a child. And when you hand your child off to a distributor, it’s like letting someone else raise it. Mark co-parented Bucky with me and my baby turned out way better than it would have if it were raised by a single parent.”

On Friday, January 26th, the film will open in theatres across Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota, Kansas and Missouri. The following week, February 2nd, roll-out continues in Arizona and California. Check out the new trailer for the film here on YouTube and on Vimeo.

“We’re proud to shepherd BUCKY & THE SQUIRRELS to the screen,” concludes Dauntless’ co-founder Mark Sonoda. “The Squirrels have succeeded against all odds to battle their way back to relevance after an absence of five decades. Their legions of fans have demanded it, and now, we can finally tell their story.”

SYNOPSIS

At the age of seventeen, Romy Schneider vaulted to international stardom through her portrayal of Princess Elisabeth (Sissi) of Austria in the first of three lavish films directed by Ernst Marischka.  And, while she would go on to work with some of the most influential and daring European directors of the era, Schneider will always be remembered by this defining role in the internationally beloved series.  Newly restored in 2K and available for the first time ever on Blu-ray in North America, THE SISSI COLLECTION, priced at $74.95srp, includes the Cannes Golden Palm-Nominated "Sissi Trilogy" along with VICTORIA IN DOVER (1954), a precursor to the Sissi films in which Schneider plays Britain's Princess Victoria.

In SISSI, the title tale from 1955, viewers embraced the 16 year-old Sissi as she traveled with her mother to the Austrian court in Ischl, where the engagement between her sister Helene and the young emperor Franz Josef (Karl Boehm) was to be announced.  Unfortunately for Helene, he falls for Sissi after meeting her while out fishing.  Sissi is also romantically engaged, but marriage comes with a price -- Archduchess Sophie, his arrogant and headstrong mother!  The sequel, SISSI: THE YOUNG EMPRESS (1956) follows the magnificent imperial wedding in Vienna and finds Sissi settling down to everyday life as empress.  Unfortunately, the strong-willed Sissi and her domineering mother-in-law cannot see eye to eye, and the conflict is heightened with the birth of a daughter.  Ultimately, a truce is brokered and the young couple head from Hungary where they are crowned King and Queen.  In the final film in the beloved trilogy, SISSI: THE FATEFUL YEARS OF THE EMPRESS(1957), Sissi has proven her ability to not only handle affairs of state but also her mother-in-law.  But as the Queen travels to Hungary in an effort to calm the insubordinate nobility, Archduchess Sophie again causes trouble for her daughter-in-law.

All of the remastered films in "The Sissi Trilogy" are presented in both 16:9 widescreen and the original theatrical full screen aspect ratios.

THE LEGEND OF 420

Directed by Peter Spirer

Opening in select theaters
October 6, 2017

Available on VOD and iTunes
October 3, 2017

THE LEGEND OF 420 explores the controversial use of marijuana and the evolution of mainstream society. Has the Government made the war on drugs a war on people? Cultural icons and experts will weigh in, contributing their own personal stories, discussing the impact of cannabis on the zeitgeist.

In Northern California, we will follow the growers. What does it take to produce “quality stuff?” What is the difference between one plant from another. What are the true medical benefits? Why are people serving life sentences for marijuana convictions? What will the Cannabis Industry look like in five years? There are now CBD infused dog biscuits, Bud and Breakfast hotels and professional cannabis cuisine and soon there will be cannabis-themed malls & amusement parks. Will it retain its integrity as a homegrown industry or will it capitulate to Big Business? “Fruity Pebbles” themed cupcakes for the “holiday” at the local baker? Yep…must be “420.”

MVD Rewind Collection debuts this December with DOA and Killer Tomatoes

MVD Entertainment Group is proud to announce the launch of the "MVD Rewind Collection" series celebrating "cult classics and more from the video store" in special edition Blu-ray + DVD collector's sets loaded with special features.

Scheduled to debut December 2017, the MVD Rewind Collection will launch with special editions of the never-before-released-on-disc punk rock doc classic D.O.A.: A Right of Passage along with Attack of The Killer Tomatoes on two-disc collector's sets.

MVD Rewind Collection #1 coming on December 8, 2017...

D.O.A.: A RIGHT OF PASSAGE

D.O.A.: A Right of Passage is the ground-breaking classic "rockumentary" about the origin of punk rock. Centered around the Sex Pistols 1978 tour of the United States which ended with the group breaking up, the tour was the only one the Pistols played in the United States.

Director Lech Kowalski (East of Paradise) followed the band with handheld cameras through the clubs and bars of their seven-city U.S. tour. Mixing this with footage of other contemporary bands, trends in the fashion capitals and punks of all shapes and colors, Kowalski captured a grainy, stained snapshot of the punk movement at its peak (which includes the now famous footage of Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen in bed) along with rare interview and concert footage of the late seventies punk rock music scene.

With live performances by the Sex Pistols, The Dead Boys, Generation X (with Billy Idol), The Rich Kids, the X-Ray Spex, and Sham 69, along with additional music from The Clash and Iggy Pop, this iconic documentary is now available for the first time ever on home video in this 2-Disc set!

--------------

The MVD Rewind Collection is the brainchild of MVD Entertainment Group's Eric D. Wilkinson and the home entertainment team. Wilkinson not only manages acquisitions for MVD, but is also personally overseeing this new line of product for the company...

"Having spent the last year curating and pouring over every last excruciating detail of these releases, I'm really excited to share these with fellow collectors. Most of these will be on Blu-ray disc for the first time here in North America and some of these (like D.O.A.) have never been released on any format. Each of these numbered collector's edition sets will include plenty bonus material and supplemental features. Our plan here at MVD is to approach the "Rewind Collection" not just as packaged media releases, but also like the popular, collectible trend category. With video stores being a relic of the past, collectors are building their own libraries and are now basically turning their basements into their own, personal video stores. Our goal is to create something that you can display right alongside your action figures, posters, figurines and collectibles. We intend to use original artwork (either the theatrical or original VHS key art) on all of our releases whenever possible (unless it's really, really bad). Each release with have a limited-edition slipcover that will have a stylized, weathered look as if it's been sitting on a video store shelf for years, complete with wear and tear, stickers and more. In addition, our titles will include a four-fold mini poster of the cover art on the inside too. APOCALYPSE CHILD Official Trailer

SYNOPSIS

What if all your life you were told that you were the son of the Francis Ford Coppola?  Myth and real-life intertwine in APOCALYPSE CHILD, a slice-of-life relationship drama from the Philippines, director Mario Cornejo and writer/producer Monster Jiminez.  Straight from an award-winning festival run, the film that the New York Asian Film Festival says is "reminiscent of the golden age of 1990s American Indie Cinema" rolls into the home entertainment marketplace on DVD ($14.99) and Digital HD on all leading platforms, including iTunes and Amazon o April 18, only from Candy Factory Films.

After Coppola shot Apocalypse Now on the sun-drenched Philippines beaches of Baler, his crew unintentionally transformed the small town into a future surfing destination after a surfboard from the movie set was left behind.  Fast forward to today, where Ford (Sid Lucero), a surfing instructor, is content to while away the hours on the azure blue waves and in the arms of his pretty runaway girlfriend (Annicka Dolonius).  But there is a restlesslessness about him that is about to unravel.  Named after Francis Ford Coppola, he may or may not be the illegitimate son of the Hollywood director.  Yet, as his mother petitions the director to acknowledge Ford as his son, Ford seems unfazed, content with his escapist beach bum lifestyle.  At least until the return of his childhood best friend, now a local congressman, threatens his dreamlike existence with harsh realities of the past.

"Apocalypse Child is one of those rare beauties where narrative plays second fiddle to a combination of perfect locations and character: stunning vistas of Baler, mystical half-tales of the past, emotional revelations and jaw-droppingly realistic character portrayals" says One Room With a View.com.  And the Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival, where the film was awarded the "Best Picture," said, "Director Mario Cornejo's laid- back, simplistic approach to storytelling takes the viewer on a compelling journey of escape into the surf, sun, and sprawling beaches -- and one can't help but want to dive in."

AMERICAN ANARCHIST

“American Anarchist” is the story of one of the most infamous books ever written, “The Anarchist Cookbook,” and the role it's played in the life of its author, William Powell. Powell wrote the hugely controversial book at just 19 amid the counterculture upheaval of the late 1960s and early ‘70s. It remains relevant today as it’s horrifyingly often cited as “inspiration” for the most heinous acts against humanity including the Columbine shootings. Now, in this film, Powell (who died in July 2016) reflects on his life and confronts the reality of what his younger self put out into the world. In this political climate, this film is sure to turn a few heads and Mr. Siskel may be the only person who’s able to speak about the mindset of a young Mr. Powell -- as well as the elder version living with the ghosts of what his youth imprinted on the world.

Siskel’s past work in film includes the documentaries Bowling for ColumbineReligulous and Finding Vivian Maier. Please scroll down for additional information about the film. We look forward to connecting with you!

IN THEATERS AND ON DEMAND MARCH 24

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS
In 1970, William Powell wanted to help build a new society, so he taught the world how to blow up the old one. As the heady days of the late 60’s counterculture and political upheaval turned darker, Powell, at 19, wrote one of the most infamous books ever published: The Anarchist Cookbook. Part manifesto, part bomb-making manual, it went on to sell over 2 million copies, and it’s been associated with decades of anti-government attacks, abortion clinic bombings, school shootings and homegrown domestic terrorism.  Now 65, Powell, haunted by his creation, struggles to make sense of the damage it’s done. After writing it, he left the US, leading an itinerant life, teaching kids with special needs -- ironically, the kinds of kids who may have turned to violence and the Cookbook.  The film is a cautionary tale of youthful rebellion, unforeseen consequences, and a universal, all-too human story of an older man, wrestling with his past, his identity, and coming to terms with who he really is.

Olive Films Releases Panther Girl of the Kongo (1954)

Olive Films highlights another under-appreciated serial with release of Panther Girl of the Kongo (1954)

Olive Films, a boutique theatrical and home entertainment distribution label dedicated to bringing independent, foreign, and classic films to DVD and Blu-ray, has announced that February 21stwill be the release date of six new titles, including Republic’s under-appreciated penultimate serial,Panther Girl of the Kongo (1954).
Panther Girl of the Kongo might not be as well remembered as other serials,” said Alex Kopecky ofOlive Films, “but we feel it’s deserving of a place alongside our favorites, because it epitomizes a lot of the elements that we love about classic serials.”

Olive Films will release Panther Girl of the Kongo to DVD and Blu-ray on February 21st.  The second-to-last serial made by Republic Pictures, it came during the dusk of the film-going habits of the 1940s and early 1950s. Still, serial fans will recognize many of their favorite classic tropes: a fiendish land grab plot, exotic jungle locations (by way of the Republic backlot), a near-comical mad scientist character, resourceful repurposing of old footage, and a no-nonsense absence of any dialogue not explicitly driving the plot forward. In addition to that, it echoes popular mutant monster elements of 1950s films by focusing on a giant “claw monster” created by a mad scientist.

Even audiences unfamiliar with serials can find plenty to enjoy in Panther Girl of the Kongo, namely the strong performance from Phyllis Coates, best known for her portrayal of Lois Lane several years earlier. In 1951, she played opposite George Reeves in his first Superman performance in the film Superman and the Mole-Men. She then reprised her role for the first season of the television series, Adventures of Superman. Today, she is the last surviving cast member of the iconic series.

It is also possible that audiences may recognize Panther Girl of the Kongo from its 1966 television run, in which twenty-six Republic serials aired as television movies.

Olive Films Releases Acclaimed "Lost" Film, Controversial Film about the Troubles, and Angie Dickinson's First Major Role

Olive Films, a boutique theatrical and home entertainment distribution label dedicated to bringing independent, foreign, and classic films to DVD and Blu-ray, is excited to announce that July 19th will be the Blu-ray debut of six films. Among these are The Ratings Game, Danny Devito’s acclaimed directorial debut that has been lost for over thirty years; The Outsider, a film about the Troubles that sparked controversy; and Gun the Man Down, an underrated but intriguing Western that features the debuts of several talents.

THE RATINGS GAME (1984)

Commemorating the 30th anniversary of Showtime’s first original movie, The Ratings Game actor-director Danny DeVito and producer David Jablin sought to finally bring their passion project to the home video market. "Being collectors of Special Edition discs of our favorite films, we decided that if we were going to do it at all, we’d want to give our ‘baby’ the same kind of loving treatment and do it in a way that would appeal to comedy fans and video collectors like ourselves,” said DeVito.
“In looking for a distributor, we specifically wanted a filmmaker-friendly company that would recognize and respect that this was a passion project for Danny and I and still is" said Jablin. It’s been great dealing with everyone at Olive who have truly cared about getting all the details right as much as we have. Danny had the one print ever made of the film for its 1984 big screen premier party in storage all this time and Olive Films has done a absolutely beautiful job restoring it in full HD,” said Jablin.
In 1984, Showtime Networks made their first foray into original movies withThe Ratings Game starring Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman, which also marked DeVito’s feature directing debut. The hilarious and biting take-down of the ratings-obsessed network television industry was greeted with love-letter reviews from critics and fans alike. The feature also boasts an eclectic comedy ensemble with performances from Gerrit Graham, George Wendt, Vincent Schiavelli, Ronny Graham, Steve Allen, Huntz Hall, Michael Richards, and Jerry Seinfeld. Unfortunately, after its premiere, the film slipped through the cracks of the network's slowly evolving distribution channels and fell into obscurity as a result, "except with its many fans who continue to hound us for copies to this day" said Jablin.
With some notoriously bad, foreign-made bootleg versions floating around under the name The Mogul, the film has remained essentially lost for over 30 years. "The mere existence of those totally crap bootleg copies really stuck in our craw and definitely motivated us to set the record straight and put out our film in all of its original glory" said DeVito.
In addition to the film itself, the DVD and Blu-ray will come with a liner notes booklet with photos and art from the film as well as a rare collection of four early short films directed by DeVito. Producer David Jablin said, “The bonus materials we included have also never been distributed on disc and were fan favorites from our early work. Altogether they tell the story of Danny’s journey as a film director of distinction.”

THE OUTSIDER (1980)

Olive Films' history of releasing forgotten and controversial films continues with The Outsider, a film about the Irish Troubles. The story of a disillusioned American Vietnam veteran who goes to fight for the I.R.A. only to discover he’s their pawn, the film received praise for its depiction of the moral murkiness of the Troubles. By all accounts, it is a war film with no heroism, glory, or ideals. Moreover, residents of Belfast frequently identify the movie’s portrayal of 1973 working class Belfast as one of cinema’s most realistic.

The Outsider became the subject of controversy at its release due to its depiction of a British officer torturing an Irish prisoner. The film proved so controversial, in fact, that it was actually dropped from the 1979 London Film Festival. Having never been on disc before in the United States, Olive Films will be giving it its Blu-ray and DVD debut on July 19th.

GUN THE MAN DOWN (1956)

Gun the Man Down is a relatively obscure but entertaining Western. It is also a film of firsts. It was Angie Dickinson’s first starring role and the first Western directed by Andrew V. McLaglen, who went on to direct McLintock!, 116 episodes of Have Gun – Will Travel, and 96 episodes of Gunsmoke. McLaglen’s direction isn’t the only thing Gunsmoke fans will recognize, because James Arness, known for playing Marshal Matt Dillon on the show for 20 years, stars in the film. In fact, it was John Wayne (producer of Gun the Man Down through Batjac Productions), who recommended Arness for the Gunsmoke part. Besides being an intriguing installment in the Western genre, it should also be of interest to fans because of how many future icons contributed to it.

Other July Titles: Art & Facts
Blu-ray  debut of Hoodlum (1997), directed by Bill Duke, starring Laurence Fishburne, Tim Roth, Andy Garcia, Vanessa Williams, Cicely Tyson, and Queen Latifah.

Blu-ray debut of Gang Related (1997), directed by Jim Kouf, starring James Belushi, Tupac Shakur, Lela Rochon, Dennis Quaid, James Earl Jones, and David Paymer.
