Chicago Center for The Print Presents "Movie Poster Memories" March 9 - April 15, 2018

Chicago Center for The Print Presents "Movie Poster Memories" March 9 - April 15, 2018

Opening Reception Friday, March 9th 6-9PM

We present "Movie Poster Memories" in collaboration with Ray Ruggeri a local expert and film lover.

We are proud to present "Movie Posters Memories" in collaboration with Ray Ruggeri a local expert in the field of original movie posters and life long film lover. Ruggeri has collected original movie posters for 40 years & has a background in art history. The exhibition and sale featuring hundreds of original and vintage movie posters from around the world and spanning several decades. This is our 4th exhibition together.

"This exhibition features original movie posters, both foreign and domestic, highlighting many genres and spanning several decades. If Hollywood is the stuff which dreams are made of, then movie posters are their tangible counterparts," says Ruggeri.

These posters were created by unsung studio artists to capture a film's essence at a glance, to reflect the time, climate and society from which they sprang. Many of these memorable designs have remained long after their celluloid counterparts have faded. The most successful posters created the thrills, chills and excitement just as well as the films themselves.

Posters including movie posters were designed to be glued up in public places and thus destroyed by the weather or covered over by other posters. Today, however, they are considered true works of art. They reflect the changes in the visual arts. They belong to art history and thus are sought out by art lovers, poster collectors all over the world. Included in this show is a sampling of limited edition art prints created by movie poster artists of today for companies like Mondo.

Exhibition & sale runs through April 15th.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

The Wonder Years debuted in 1988 following ABC's broadcast of Super Bowl XXII, and, for six memorable seasons, the series affectionately captured the angst of growing up in suburban middle-class America in the late '60s, as seen through the life and times of Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage). It was unlike anything on television and audiences eagerly followed his evolution as a typical awkward teenager who remembered every moment of his transition from childhood with excruciating detail and remarkable hindsight. From his first kiss with Winnie Cooper (Danica McKellar) to his friendship with Paul Pfeiffer (Josh Saviano) and the ups and downs of the Arnold family, fans shared in laughter, love, and loss, but above all, wonder.

From 1988 to 1993, The Wonder Years was one of the most popular shows on TV, achieving a spot in the Nielsen Top 30 for four of its six seasons. And the critical accolades and awards would follow: after only a scant six episodes, the show captured an Emmy® for "Best Comedy Series;" and, at the age of 13, Fred Savage would become the youngest actor ever nominated as "Outstanding Lead Actor for a Comedy Series." The series would also go on to win 24 awards (and be nominated for 70 more), including multiple Emmy® Awards, a Golden Globe® and, in 1989, a Peabody® Award for pushing the boundaries of the sitcom format and using new modes of storytelling.

Now, as the groundbreaking series commemorates its milestone 30th Anniversary, there's never been a better time to add one of the "Top 20 Shows of the '80s[1]" to your home entertainment collection, with two specially-priced retail editions.

Both sets contain all 115 compete episodes from the series six year run -- remastered and engineered for optimal viewing -- along with complete show notes with episode synopses, cast member reflections, "Current Events," and more, as well as the soundtrack of over 300 classic period songs as they were featured in the original broadcasts includes such artists as: Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, The Byrds, Simon & Garfunkel, Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, and of course, Joe Cocker's unforgettable theme.

THE WONDER YEARS: THE COMPLETE SERIES DELUXE EDITION is whimsically packaged in a limited edition metal locker, a replica of those used by Kevin and Winnie in Kennedy Junior High School - and arrives complete with colorful Wonder Years magnets to custom-design each locker.   Also included are two "notebooks," each featuring detailed episode information and production photos, as well as a replica yearbook embellished with signatures from cast members, behind-the-scenes photos and classic show memorabilia, and liner notes penned by Fred Savage, series creators Neal Marlens and Carol Black and executive producer Bob Brush. For sitcom purists, THE SLIPCASE EDITION delivers all of the laughs and all of the memories in streamlined packaging.

March into spring with 11 new releases from Arrow!

Get the new month started with Richard Kelly's early 2000's classic, Donnie Darko, available on both
Blu-ray and DVD from Arrow Video. This story of a troubled teenager with vision of a deranged rabbit manipulating him into a series of crimes features an all star cast and quickly became a cult icon. When the world comes to and end you can breathe a sigh of relief because you have Donnie to look forward to.
Shifting gears from classic American and into Italian giallo, Arrow Video serves up another dish from the maestro Dario Argento with The Cat O' Nine Tales available on limited edition Blu-ray +
DVD combo pack. After reinventing the giallo with The Bird with the Crystal Plumage in 1970, Argento proved be was no fluke a year later with this followup about a newspaper reporter and retired blind journalist that work together to solve a series of murders.

Fans of George Romero will be pleased to get their hands on some of the Zombie King's non-dead
titles with individual Blu-ray releases of There's Always Vanilla,
Season of the Witch and The Crazies.
While these three films don't have quite the same notoriety as Romero's series of dead films, they are important pieces of work that highlight the versatility he had as a director. And yes, they still take place in the Pittsburgh area.

Clowns are creepy all on their own, but send clowns from outer space with a thirst for blood and
you've got nightmare fuel. Well, the Chiodo Brothers are more than happy to gas up your tiny car with Killer Klowns From Outer Space, coming to Blu-ray from Arrow Video. This 80's cult favorite has been both frightful and delightful for fans for 30 years. If you think death by cotton candy cocoon is bad wait until you find out that in space no one can eat ice cream!

Arrow Academy will also make their presence felt in March with two new releases of their own. First up is
Robert Altman's Images. This story of affairs, paranoia and hallucinations stars Susannah York
and was based off a novel, "In Search of Unicorns," that she wrote. The second and final release from Arrow Academy will be Sacha Guitry: Four Films 1936-1938 Limited Edition [Blu-ray + DVD]. This set, as the titles suggests, contains four films from the French filmmaker, playwright and actor.

For the film fan looking to up their collection with something other than movies, Arrow has you
covered there as well. Coming to vinyl for the first time will be Erik the Conqueror (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) from composer Roberto Nicolosi. The rousing score will be released on limited, translucent yellow, double-vinyl presented on 180 gram wax. Also making the leap to vinyl will be Stelvio
Cipriani's Death Walks On High Heels (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). An underrated composer, Cipriani's giallo score combines jarring, staccato suspense themes with luxurious lounge jazz arrangements.

And finally bringing the month to the close is The Blair Witch Project from filmmaker/author Russell Gomm. This new book takes a look at the phenomena of The Blair Witch Project through the eyes of a fan that was captivated by the film's unusual marketing campaign. Gomm uncovers the production history of the film and follows it up through the smashing success that it became.

Alamo Drafthouse's American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) and Bleeding Skull! announce THE SOULTANGLER Coming to DVD on March 13th

Alamo Drafthouse's American Genre Film Archive, the largest non-profit genre film archive in the world, and Bleeding Skull!, the site and series of books dedicated to celebrating ultra-obscure genre movies, are excited to announce a March 13, 2018 release date for THE SOULTANGLER on DVD. After a successful run of limited edition releases with Mondo, the art boutique of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Bleeding Skull! has teamed up with AGFA to share wild horror and exploitation movies from the 1980s and 1990s with the world. Insane genius Dr. Anton Lupesky has developed a drug that allows users to inhabit corpses and transform into rabid maniacs! Can reporter Kim Castle stop the carnage and save our species from annihilation?! This epic of outsider filmmaking is a dream-like wasteland that's punctuated with severed heads, evil beasties, and hooded slashers. Filmed in basements and garages, director Pat Bishow's earnest devotion to storytelling in the spirit of H.P. Lovecraft elevates THE SOULTANGLER beyond kitsch and into heavenly territory.

"Before now, THE SOULTANGLER was only ever released on VHS," said AGFA director Joe Ziemba. "We're so excited to bring this mind-bending movie to a wider audience, and it's a perfect title to kick off the new collaboration between AGFA and Bleeding Skull."

Special features include:
