Mondo to Release HELLRAISER: Soundtrack, Poster & London Screening

MONDO announced their plans today to release the vinyl soundtrack and striking new poster for HELLRAISER in celebration of the film's 30th Anniversary. These new releases will premiere at an anniversary screening at the Prince Charles Cinema in London on September 25th, where HELLRAISER showed audiences a nightmarish vision of the underworld at its first-ever screening 30 years ago! Additionally, Arrow Video will be releasing a new special anniversary edition Blu-ray SteelBook (featuring the same artwork) this fall! Check out all the details below.

Hellraiser 30th Anniversary Edition Soundtrack. Remixed & remastered from the original 2 inch analog reel to reel sessions. Overseen and approved by composer Christopher Young. All new artwork by Matt Ryan Tobin.

"Even though the film was a low budget horror with a first-time director, HELLRAISER towers over just about every other horror score recorded in the '80s. Composer Christopher Young decided that instead of providing a typical '80s synth score, he would use a full orchestra to create a symphonic score that was epic is scope. It’s a phenomenal piece of work; huge strings, waltz-like time signatures, and suites that run from the ethereal to downright scary in a matter of moments. We are thrilled to be releasing HELLRAISER in congestion with Lakeshore Records for its 30th anniversary. This fully remastered sonic assault will tear your ears apart," said Mondo Record Label Manager Spencer Hickman.

Here's a breakdown of the different versions of the soundtrack and how you can get them:

LP Edition
180g vinyl housed inside an 425gsm gatefold sleeve featuring all new art by Matt Ryan Tobin and featuring liner notes from Clive Barker and a cardboard replica lament configuration box.

1) Screening Edition: Pressed on clear vinyl with black smoke and gold color in color effect  available exclusively at The Prince Charles London screening and at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles on October 6th. 500 copies only. $30 / £30

6 x 7” singles each with a unique cover housed inside a 8’ x 8’ wooden lament configuration box replica with liner notes from Clive Barker. Strictly ltd to 1000 copies. On sale 10/6/2017 (online only). $80

Hellraiser by Matt Ryan Tobin. 36"x24" Screen Print, Edition of 325. Printed by DL Screenprinting.
Matt Ryan Tobin’s artwork will also be available as a poster (combined with the screening ticket purchase), which will go on sale Friday, September 1st at PrinceCharlesCinema.com.

HELLRAISER 30th Anniversary Screening at Prince Charles Cinema
Poster + Screening Ticket Bundle: £55.00
Poster + Screening Ticket Bundle (for PCC members): £52.50
ON SALE: Friday, September 1 at PrinceCharlesCinema.com at 12PM (BST) / 6AM (CT).

*the Screening Edition LP will be sold separately in the lobby before & after the screening

Commenting on the anniversary screening, Prince Charles Cinema said “HELLRAISER had its first ever public screening here at The Prince Charles Cinema way back in September 1987; the owner of the cinema still talks about the packed, raucous, late-night screening that blew the roof off the place. When Mondo reached out to us about launching the soundtrack re-release in celebration of the film's 30th anniversary, we jumped at the chance to take part. And just when we thought the evening couldn’t get any better, Arrow Films came in with a 35mm print of the film in hand to make this a perfect night at the movies!"

Arrow Video will also be releasing HELLRAISER on Blu-ray this fall! It'll be available on October 30th, just in time for Halloween.

Here's what they had to say about the release: "With the anniversary of HELLRAISER just around the corner we’re all giddy with excitement here at Arrow, so when Mondo and the Prince Charles spoke to us about being involved in this event, there was only one answer, a big fat YES! The event at Prince Charles will be one of a kind and the perfect launch for Mondo’s soundtrack release. If all of that wasn’t enough to get fans salivating, we’re excited to be announcing another special HELLRAISER goody on the way from us… In conjunction with Mondo Artist Matt Ryan Tobin we have created a new special anniversary edition Blu-ray SteelBook which perfectly complements the vinyl re-issue, so now for the first time ever you’ll be able to see the film in the cinema from an original 35mm release print, hear the soundtrack on a newly remastered vinyl, and take the film home to enjoy again and again.”

THE ATONING Available on DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD Sept 5

"THE ATONING"THE HAUNTING HORROR/SUSPENSE/THRILLERFROM GRAVITAS VENTURESTO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 5, 2017ON DVD, BLU-RAY, AND DIGITAL HD

The Atoning," is a horror/suspense/thriller from writer/director Michael Williams (OzLand) where, while haunted by ghostly apparitions, two parents try to protect their young son from a dark secret that could destroy their family. "The Atoning" is now available for pre-orders on iTunes, and will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, Digital HD, and in REDBOX on September 5, 2017, announced Williams.

In "The Atoning," Vera, Ray, and Sam, a seemingly normal family, are haunted by more than mere ghosts. The lingering horror of their past threatens their ability to function as a loving family until they become enlightened by a mystical encounter. From that moment on, they're thrust into a horror worse than anything they've ever experienced. Personal demons manifest and tear the family apart from the inside out as they come to terms with their past.

"The Atoning" was shot in a 140-year-old Victorian house in the director's hometown of West Point, Mississippi, with principal photography wrapping on August 31, 2016. The film stars Virginia Newcomb, Michael LaCour, Cannon Bosarge, and Dorothy Weems.

"We were incredibly fortunate in the strength and talent of our entire cast and crew and the film's success is a testament to their energy, commitment, and hard work.  Our producers also did a fantastic job throughout the entire process navigating the business side of things and positioned our film very well," said Actor/Producer Michael LaCour.

Practical effects were utilized almost exclusively in the film. Beside a handful of shots that required digital enhancements, the vast majority of the effects in the film are practical.

"I wanted "The Atoning" to feel very real and grounded in the film's aesthetic, even when the story went into other worldly directions. It is important to do as much practically as possible to not only be more efficient but to also make the cinematic experience more fulfilling," said Williams.

The production utilized FX makeup, old-school camera tricks, and on-set movie magic to realize the film's various ghostly and demonic elements.

"I've been making films in MS for over 13 years and have been fortunate enough to see the industry grow throughout the state. I am consistently amazed at the quality of actors, crew, and filmmakers that populate Mississippi and the surrounding region. For me, it makes sense to produce films in the environment where I feel inspired by the atmosphere around me and to realize that inspiration with talented and hard-working collaborators," said Williams.

Filmmakers of "The Atoning" are Writer/Director/Producer Michael Williams, Executive Producer/Producer Michael LaCour (who also stars), Executive Producer Daniel Wood, Producer Joni Seitz, Associate Producers Sabrita Gordon and David Roberson, and Composer Keatzi Gunmoney. Williams also serves as the film's Cinematographer and Editor.

"Both Gravitas Ventures and Cardinal XD have proven to be strong advocates for our film and have done a great job, thus far.  There's certainly a lot of excitement in the air right now as "The Atoning" creeps towards its release date," said LaCour.

Notes from the Upside Down Book Out 8/2017, the ultimate guide to Stranger Things

Notes from the Upside Down: An Unofficial Guide to Stranger Things by Guy Adams (Touchstone original; August 29, 2017; $16.00) The incredibly popular show premiered on Netflix in July 2016, quickly becoming the third most-watched season of Netflix original content. Stranger Things continues to dominate pop culture as fans not-so-patiently count down to the second season’s release. Notes from the Upside Down will help fill the Demogorgon-sized hole in our lives while we wait.

Entertaining, informative, and perfect for fans of Stranger Things, eighties pop culture, and the horror/paranormal genre, this fascinating guide will reveal:

·         The real-life conspiracy theories (and some that aren’t theories) that the show draws from

·         The music of Stranger Things: an homage to the 80s

·         Steve: how the actor changed the character’s storyline

·         Why are we so obsessed with Barb?

·         All the references you might have missed

·         How the Demogorgon was created, and the man inside

Notes from the Upside Down doesn’t just deliver insights into Stranger Things and its nods to genre-defining giants like King, Spielberg, and Carpenter.  It helpfully encapsulates 1980’s America to put the show in its proper historical contexts. It’s perfect for any age, as younger audiences will understand all the 80s references from the show, and those who grew up in the eighties will appreciate the nostalgia and find references they missed.

THE FARTHEST to Air on PBS NEXT Wed. August 23rd

THE FARTHEST – VOYAGER IN SPACE Will Premiere August 23 on PBS

In Celebration of 40th Anniversary of the Voyager Launch

PBS announced today that THE FARTHEST – VOYAGER IN SPACE, a two-hour special about NASA’s historic Voyager mission to explore our solar system and beyond, will premiere nationally on August 23 at 9:00 p.m. ET on PBS stations, in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the first Voyager launch. The documentary was an official selection in the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival as part of the festival’s Viewpoints program. (Watch the trailer here.)

With participation from more than 20 of the original and current mission scientists, engineers and team members, THE FARTHEST – VOYAGER IN SPACE tells captivating tales of one of humanity’s greatest achievements in exploration. From supermarket aluminum foil added at the last minute to protect the craft from radiation; to the near disasters at launch; to the emergency maneuvers to fix a crucial frozen instrument platform, viewers get a sense of how difficult—and rewarding—space exploration can be.

Featuring a soundtrack of evocative period music including songs from Pink Floyd, stunning cinematography, vivid CGI animations of Voyager traversing the solar system, and original groundbreaking photographs taken by the twin spacecraft, the film tells the story of one of humanity’s most ambitious scientific endeavors. Voyager revolutionized planetary science, resolved key questions about the outer planets and raised intriguing new ones about the evolution of our solar system. Originally approved to travel only to Saturn and Jupiter, the spacecraft used gravity-assisted slingshot trajectories to take advantage of a once-in-176-year planetary alignment to extend their missions, with Voyager 2 also extending its mission to visit Uranus and Neptune.

After completing its mission to Jupiter and Saturn, Voyager 1 turned its camera inward and, at the insistence of the eloquent and insightful astronomer Carl Sagan, took one of the most famous images of Earth ever captured. As described by Sagan in the film, the image showed Earth as a pale blue dot on which “everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives …on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.”

The spacecraft, equipped with a fraction of the computing power of a modern cell phone, sent back unprecedented images and data from all four outer planets and many of their moons. As they continue their journey into interstellar space, they carry with them a literal record of our existence that may outlive us all. Sagan was one of the masterminds behind perhaps Voyager’s most iconic feature, The Golden Record, which carries greetings, music and images from Earth to intelligent beings they may one day encounter. THE FARTHEST – VOYAGER IN SPACE reveals how this famous record was created and how it presents humanity to any creatures that may find it.

“We’re living in an exciting time for space exploration, with new Earth-like exoplanets being discovered, manned missions to Mars on the horizon, and the search for extraterrestrial life being taken ever more seriously,” says executive producer Sean B. Carroll of HHMI Tangled Bank Studios. “And even though it launched 40 years ago, Voyager laid the foundation for so much of what we know about the outer planets and beyond. It’s an incredible scientific achievement, but also inspires us to reflect on our place in the universe and to imagine the implications of finding life on other worlds.”

“The men and women who gave birth to the Voyager mission are an extraordinary group of people whose passion and sense of curiosity are as eternal as the Voyager journey itself,” says producer John Murray of Crossing The Line Films. “We are incredibly grateful to them for sharing their stories with us and for bringing to life what it was like to create a scientific mission of literally cosmic proportions. This story is more than 40 years in the making, and there have been—and continue to be—so many firsts that Voyager remains as relevant now as it was when it was launched. The spacecraft are still inspiring people, still forging new frontiers of discovery and still sending back data that is changing our understanding of our solar system and beyond.”

Four decades after they left Earth, Voyager 1 has traveled more than 12 billion miles and Voyager 2 more than 10 billion. Both nuclear-powered spacecraft continue to send back data. In 2012, Voyager 1, which is traveling at more than 320 million miles per year, became the first human-made object to enter interstellar space—leaving our solar system behind and ushering humanity into the interstellar age.

Leading up to the broadcast in August, HHMI Tangled Bank Studios will develop a series of public screenings and discussions featuring scientists and engineers who appear in the film and who worked on the Voyager mission. Information on the location and dates of screening events will be available later this spring at pbs.org/farthest.  The events will coincide with a rich summer of astronomical events and news: for the first time in nearly 40 years, a complete solar eclipse will be visible across the continental United States, to be chronicled in NOVA “Eclipse Over America” on August 21; and after a nearly 20-year mission exploring Saturn and its moons, NASA’s Cassini spacecraft will end its mission by plunging into Saturn’s atmosphere, burning up like a meteor. NOVA will explore this mission in “Death Dive to Saturn” on September 13.

“As America turns its attention to the stars and sky this summer, THE FARTHEST – VOYAGER IN SPACE will be a wonderful way to revisit how this incredible journey began, and to celebrate the men and women whose extraordinary vision will take us to the furthest reaches of the universe,” said Beth Hoppe, Chief Programming Executive and General Manager, General Audience Programming, PBS. “We hope it will encourage the next generation of scientists to continue to push the boundaries of what seems possible.”

THE FARTHEST – VOYAGER IN SPACE is a Crossing The Line film presented by HHMI Tangled Bank Studios in association with the Irish Film Board, ZDF, ARTE and the BBC. The film is written and directed by Emer Reynolds and produced by John Murray and Clare Stronge. Executive producers are John Rubin, Sean B. Carroll and Dennis Liu (HHMI Tangled Bank Studios) and Keith Potter (Irish Film Board). Executive in Charge for PBS is Bill Gardner.

Continue your space exploration with additional new PBS specials that offer an in-depth look at the solar system and beyond! Coming up on August 21, NOVA “Eclipse Over America” invites you to observe a total solar eclipse traversing the US mainland for the first time in more than a generation. Two more NOVA specials, “Death Dive to Saturn” on September 13 and “Black Holes” (w.t.) date TBD, explore the Cassini space probe’s mission to Saturn and the frontiers of black hole research, respectively. In November, BEYOND A YEAR IN SPACE chronicles Scott Kelly’s return home after a year in space and provides a glimpse of a new generation of astronauts training for mankind’s greatest leap yet: the journey to Mars. PBS KIDS’ hit space-themed series READY JET GO! takes young viewers on far-flung learning adventures through astronomy, technology, scientific exploration, innovation and invention. PBS Digital Studios’ SPACE TIME explores the outer reaches of space, the craziness of astrophysics, the possibilities of sci-fi and anything else imaginable beyond planet Earth.

SCARED TO DEATH: THE THRILL OF HORROR FILM OPENS AT THE MUSEUM OF POP

SCARED TO DEATH: THE THRILL OF HORROR FILM OPENS AT THE MUSEUM OF POP CULTURE SEPTEMBER 30

New immersive exhibition examines the genre’s most memorable monsters

SEATTLE – The Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) announced the opening of a new exhibition, Scared to Death: The Thrill of Horror Film. Organized by MoPOP, this original exhibit takes an in-depth look at more than a century of horror cinema. From blood-thirsty vampires and unrelenting zombies to fiendish slashers, this immersive experience presents the broad range of iconic horror villains and the stories over the generations that have brought them to life.
Scared to Death: The Thrill of Horror Film opens at MoPOP on September 30, 2017.

The exhibit features a macabre display of more than 50 props and costumes from film and television including The Walking Dead, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Blade, Bride of Frankenstein, The Thing, Dawn of the Dead, Hostel, Jeepers Creepers, Pet Sematary, and more.  Taking inspiration from the genre, the 3,000 square foot gallery space is designed to evoke the unsettling sensations associated with cinematic terror. Themed sections include an unholy vampire chapel with walls dripping blood, a zombie containment area with an aquarium wall of submerged zombie heads from The Walking Dead, and a slasher’s den with a thicket of corpses suspended from the ceiling. The exhibit will also feature multi-media experiences including exhibit films, oral history interviews, and interactive photo ops.

"Following the success of MoPOP's first horror exhibition, Can't Look Away: The Lure of Horror Film, we dramatically expanded and elevated the experience with new artifacts; and designed a bolder, morbidly elaborate exhibit environment," says Jacob McMurray, Senior Curator, MoPOP.  "We are also thrilled to add acclaimed directors Karyn Kusama and Roxanne Benjamin to join our guest curators, Roger Corman, John Landis, and Eli Roth.”
