The Strangers: Prey At Night Soundtrack

VARÈSE SARABANDE RECORDS TO RELEASETHE STRANGERS: PREY AT NIGHT – ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK

Featuring Original Music by Adrian Johnston
Plus Songs By Kim Wilde, Bonnie Tyler, Air Supply, and Mental As Anything

Varèse Sarabande will release THE STRANGERS: PREY AT NIGHT – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on March 23 and on CD April 13, 2018. The album features original music composed by Adrian Johnston (BECOMING JANE, BRIDESHEAD REVISITED).

THE STRANGERS: PREY AT NIGHT is a reboot of Bryan Bertino’s 2008 cult classic The Strangers.  The movie stars Christina Hendricks, Martin Henderson and Bailee Madison.  A road trip to visit relatives takes a dangerous turn when a family arrives at a secluded mobile home park that's mysteriously deserted -- until three masked psychopaths show up.

“I had an idea that once we reach Gatlin Lake, just as the strangers are tuning into radio pop from yesteryear, so too should the scoring sensibilities get occasionally dialed across the decades,” said composer Johnston. “I also wanted to treat it as much as possible as a live event, but also incorporating certain ‘musique concrete’ techniques, reverse tape, loops, cut ups etc.”

Adrian Johnston’s film career began after he became known for live multi-instrumental performances of his new scores for classic silent movies across Europe and USA. His first feature commission was JUDE in 1996. Other film credits include BECOMING JANE and KINKY BOOTS.

Johnston thought out of the box in recording the music for THE STRANGERS: PREY AT NIGHT.  “The recording sessions took place at night in an incredibly atmospheric (deconsecrated) chapel, centuries old,” he described.  “I projected the film onto a 30-foot high paper screen and improvised to picture, mixing acoustic instruments, vintage synths and organs. There were no nearby neighbors to disturb so I was able to get the entire building thrumming with the cacophony.”

In addition to Johnston’s score, the soundtrack features classic tracks by Kim Wilde, Bonnie Tyler, and Air Supply.

Mondo to Release HELLRAISER: Soundtrack, Poster & London Screening

MONDO announced their plans today to release the vinyl soundtrack and striking new poster for HELLRAISER in celebration of the film's 30th Anniversary. These new releases will premiere at an anniversary screening at the Prince Charles Cinema in London on September 25th, where HELLRAISER showed audiences a nightmarish vision of the underworld at its first-ever screening 30 years ago! Additionally, Arrow Video will be releasing a new special anniversary edition Blu-ray SteelBook (featuring the same artwork) this fall! Check out all the details below.

Hellraiser 30th Anniversary Edition Soundtrack. Remixed & remastered from the original 2 inch analog reel to reel sessions. Overseen and approved by composer Christopher Young. All new artwork by Matt Ryan Tobin.

"Even though the film was a low budget horror with a first-time director, HELLRAISER towers over just about every other horror score recorded in the '80s. Composer Christopher Young decided that instead of providing a typical '80s synth score, he would use a full orchestra to create a symphonic score that was epic is scope. It’s a phenomenal piece of work; huge strings, waltz-like time signatures, and suites that run from the ethereal to downright scary in a matter of moments. We are thrilled to be releasing HELLRAISER in congestion with Lakeshore Records for its 30th anniversary. This fully remastered sonic assault will tear your ears apart," said Mondo Record Label Manager Spencer Hickman.

Here's a breakdown of the different versions of the soundtrack and how you can get them:

Matt Ryan Tobin’s artwork will also be available as a poster (combined with the screening ticket purchase), which will go on sale Friday, September 1st at PrinceCharlesCinema.com.

HELLRAISER 30th Anniversary Screening at Prince Charles Cinema

ON SALE: Friday, September 1 at PrinceCharlesCinema.com at 12PM (BST) / 6AM (CT).

*the Screening Edition LP will be sold separately in the lobby before & after the screening

Commenting on the anniversary screening, Prince Charles Cinema said “HELLRAISER had its first ever public screening here at The Prince Charles Cinema way back in September 1987; the owner of the cinema still talks about the packed, raucous, late-night screening that blew the roof off the place. When Mondo reached out to us about launching the soundtrack re-release in celebration of the film's 30th anniversary, we jumped at the chance to take part. And just when we thought the evening couldn’t get any better, Arrow Films came in with a 35mm print of the film in hand to make this a perfect night at the movies!"

Arrow Video will also be releasing HELLRAISER on Blu-ray this fall! It'll be available on October 30th, just in time for Halloween.

Here's what they had to say about the release: "With the anniversary of HELLRAISER just around the corner we’re all giddy with excitement here at Arrow, so when Mondo and the Prince Charles spoke to us about being involved in this event, there was only one answer, a big fat YES! The event at Prince Charles will be one of a kind and the perfect launch for Mondo’s soundtrack release. If all of that wasn’t enough to get fans salivating, we’re excited to be announcing another special HELLRAISER goody on the way from us… In conjunction with Mondo Artist Matt Ryan Tobin we have created a new special anniversary edition Blu-ray SteelBook which perfectly complements the vinyl re-issue, so now for the first time ever you’ll be able to see the film in the cinema from an original 35mm release print, hear the soundtrack on a newly remastered vinyl, and take the film home to enjoy again and again.”

My Bloody Valentine from Waxwork Records

Waxwork Records is proud to announce the new double LP soundtrack release of MY BLOODY VALENTINE (1981). Praised by director Quentin Tarantino as his favorite slasher movie of all time, MY BLOODY VALENTINE (1981) tells the story of a small mining town and it’s residents that fall victim to a vengeful, homicidal maniac on Valentine’s Day. The film has garnered a cult following and has also sparked a major-studio remake in 2009.
By working directly with composer Paul Zaza (Prom Night, Curtains, Porky’s), Waxwork was allowed to work directly from the original master tapes to source the complete, haunting score. This release marks the very first time the score to the 1981 slasher-horror classic has been released in any format.
The foreboding score by Paul Zaza is a mix of both minimal synth and orchestral compositions intertwined with bluegrass and country soundtrack cues. Expertly mastered by Thomas DiMuzio at Gench Mastering, the complete score clocks in at over one hour and spans two 180 Gram opaque red vinyl records.

LP Package Details:

  • The Complete MY BLOODY VALENTINE (1981) Film Score Debut
  • Double LP Featuring Over One Hour Of Music
  • Pressed to Two 180 Gram Opaque Blood Red Vinyl Records
  • Liner Notes By Composer Paul Zaza
