Horror-Synth Band THE VIDEO NASTIES Kick Off Halloween Season with Debut Album

Horror-synth band The Video Nasties kick off Halloween season with debut album
Stream, download, & embed We Are The Video Nasties at bit.ly/TheVideoNasties

Phoenix, Arizona-based horror show The Video Nasties have self-released their debut album, We Are The Video Nasties. 10 synth-soaked aural nightmares are available to stream/purchase on Bandcamp.

Walking the line between new wave and synthwave, The Video Nasties sound like a Frankenstein-esque meld of Oingo Boingo and John Carpenter. Vocalist Matt Dougherty and instrumentalist Justin Burning craft songs that reflect the '80s horror films on which they were raised.

Akin to walking through the horror section at a video store of yesteryear, We Are The Video Nasties includes songs directly inspired by such cult classics as From Beyond, TerrorVision, and Deadtime Stories (in collaboration with director Jeffrey Delman), in addition to their own original tales of terror.

"We're two horror geeks who consumed too many '80s horror films as impressionable youth and find ourselves now compelled to recreate the synth-based spooky melodies of the period," explains Burning, who is also a film composer. The result is macabre yet often tongue-in-cheek.

The Video Nasties can be found haunting Bandcamp, Instagram, and Facebook.

We Are The Video Nasties track listing:

1. Terror Vision
2. Bedtime Tales ("Deadtime Stories" cover)
3. Bag of Bones
4. The Jackling Horde
5. Don't Open the Doorway
6. Disciples of the Plastic Mask
7. Eat Your Humanity
8. My Darling Frankenstein
9. Forward from Beyond
10. Season's Ending

John Carpenter’s first post-Halloween venture into the H.P. Lovecraft-inspired, apocalyptic vein that he would continue to mine in films like The Thing (1982) and Prince of Darkness  (1987), THE FOG depicts the seaside California town of Antonio Bay in the grips of an ancient curse and a creeping mist. Drenched in malevolent atmosphere and packing an ensemble cast that includes Adrienne Barbeau, Tom Atkins, Hal Holbrook and the mother-daughter duo of Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis, this is the director at his ingenious, chilling best, servicing a contemporary taste for gore while simultaneously evoking the spirit of Val Lewton.
Out of theatrical release for years due to faded, unplayable prints, THE FOG can now be viewed again as it was intended, with this new 4K restoration by Studiocanal, with its breathtaking color cinematography by Dean Cundey (Escape From New York, Back To The Future (I-III), Apollo 13, Romancing The Stone),  who deftly captured both the daylight beauty of the Point Reyes shore and the ghostly goings-on in the dark, eerie night.
Founded in 1997 by Bruce Goldstein, Rialto Pictures brings the finest of world cinema to screens across North America. From new restorations of enduring classics such as Carol Reed's The Third Man, Jean Renoir's Grand Illusion, and Akira Kurosawa's Ran to genre mainstays like John Carpenter’s Escape From New York and Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead 2, Rialto Pictures offers an eclectic range of cinematic adventures appealing to any audience. Since 2012, Rialto Pictures has been the U.S. theatrical and non-theatrical representative of the Studiocanal library of over 2,000 international classics. Often featuring updated subtitles and renewed marketing materials, Rialto Pictures aims to engage moviegoers with cinematic history, preserve film culture, and highlight the continued relevance of classic stories through high quality theatrical presentations.

Rock and Roll Horror Flick Flick Staring David Arquette, Luke Wilson And Allie Gonino Sees Release

SP RELEASING AQUIRES ALEX KELEDJIAN’S ELECTRIFYING HORROR THRILLER HIGH VOLTAGESETS THEATRICAL, DIGITAL, DVD/BD RELEASE DATES FOR FILM STARRING DAVID ARQUETTE, LUKE WILSON AND ALLIE GONINO

SP Releasing will release writer/director Alex Keledjian’s horror thriller HIGH VOLTAGE, set within the gritty and competitive Los Angeles music scene, releasing in limited theaters and on-demand on Friday, October 19th through SP Releasing’s output deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film will open in at least ten cities, including New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, and more, and will also be available on all major digital platforms same day. DVD and Blu-Ray release will follow November 20th.

Written, produced and directed by Alex Keledjian (Project Greenlight; FEAST), the film stars David Arquette (SCREAM 1-4; EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS), Allie Gonino (The Red Road; GEOGRAPHY CLUB), Perrey Reeves (Entourage; OLD SCHOOL), and Luke Wilson (OLD SCHOOL; Roadies).

A struggling rock band, led by washed-out rock star Jimmy Kleen (Arquette), strikes a deal with cynical record executive Rick (Wilson). Things take a sinister turn when the band’s lead singer, Rachel (Gonino), and her controlling stage mother, Barb (Reeves) both get struck by lightning and killed. Rachel is brought back to life, but she is different than before: confident, sexy, with an irresistible stage presence. Lightning courses through her veins and she uses her new supernatural electrical powers to drain the life from men and turn it into electrifying stage performances. Her bandmates, including guitarist Scott (Donowho), discover her dark secret, and have to decide just how far are they are willing to let her go to help them succeed. As Jimmy says, "You can't have rock n' roll without electricity."

HIGH VOLTAGE, formerly known as HOLLOW BODY, was produced by Michael D. Jones (CABIN FEVER; KILL THE IRISHMAN), Ryan Gibson (Stan Against Evil; Fear the Walking Dead), Dwjuan Fox (XX; ARMED) and Mitch Waxman (FREAKS). The film is also making a world premiere festival debut at the first-ever Film Fest 919 (http://filmfest919.com), taking place October 3-7 in Chapel Hill, NC.

HIGH VOLTAGE is a mashup of genres combining horror, thriller, musical, and noir into a bloody and beautiful rock n' roll fantasy. Industry vet Keledjian, creator of Project Greenlight—no stranger to behind-the-scenes drama—also wrote the rocking soundtrack: "The script and the score are based on my experiences of living and working in Hollywood, and the scope and spectacle of film is the perfect vehicle to tell this story. SP Releasing just ‘got’ that, and is releasing it in theaters, which for me is a dream come true.”

Shot in luscious anamorphic widescreen, with vivid colors and extreme angles, the film drapes a golden sheen over the seedy business of show, slowly piercing the veil of the glamour of Hollywood and revealing the broken dreams, dark secrets, and unholy pacts that power the klieg lights.
SP Releasing chairman and CEO Steven Paul, whose previous credits include Marvel’s GHOST RIDER and Paramount’s GHOST IN THE SHELL, is thrilled to partner with the filmmakers for the US release of the picture. He says, “[Alex] Keledjian brought together a wealth of cast and crew, and their efforts have resulted in a powerful movie, with a relevant story, and we couldn’t be prouder to be a part of the journey.” The deal was negotiated for Keledjian by David Pierce of Pierce Law Group, LLC, and Jason Price on behalf of SP Releasing.
SP Releasing’s recent theatrical release slate includes the adaptation of The New York Times bestseller THE PIRATES OF SOMALIA, staring Evan Peters and Al Pacino; the western-thriller THE SCENT OF RAIN & LIGHTNING with Maika Monroe (It Follows) and Maggie Grace (Lost); and the drama-thriller MADTOWN, toplined by This is Us star Milo Ventimiglia.

Arrow Video US - October 2018 Release Schedule

TWELVE MONKEYS (10/30) [Blu-ray]TORSO (10/30) [Blu-ray]SCHLOCK (10/16) [Blu-ray]DEADBEAT AT DAWN (10/23) [Blu-ray]DISTANT VOICES, STILL LIVES (10/23) [Blu-ray]

This October Arrow is All Treats, No Tricks!

We have officially entered fall which means it's finally time to get those Halloween decorations up to the scare the neighbors and enjoy pumpkin spice variations of your favorite treats. More importantly, it's that time of year when you gather 'round the television with your closest friends and watch the spookiest of movies. This Halloween you're going to want to invite over your good friends Arrow.
For those looking to stay in the horror realm without watching only horror, then perhaps it's best you start with Schlock from John Landis and hitting Blu-ray on October 16th. This raucous comedy pays loving tribute to monster movies of the past as it follows a prehistoric ape named Shlock on a rampage throughout southern California. This genre mashup launched the career of Landis and makeup effects wizard Rick Baker and now it will finally have a proper home video release. The new Blu-ray comes with a brand-new 4K restoration and monster-sized list of special features that includes an audio commentary with both Landis and Baker.
If you like your horror gory and raw, then Arrow Video has just what you need. Releasing October 23rd is Jim Van Bebber's blood-soaked cult classic, Deadbeat at Dawn. This is the story of Goose, a gang leader trying to go straight until his girlfriend is brutally murdered by his rivals. Now pulled back into the world he was desperately trying to escape, Goose is hell-bent on getting retribution. This 80's gem comes with a new 2K restoration and is decked out with plenty of bonus content featuring Van Bebber discussing his outrageous career.

Looking for some Italian horror? Then you'll want to be at your local video store on October 30th to snag a copy of Sergio Martio's masterpiece, Torso. This heart pounding giallo about a sex craved maniac prowling the streets of Perugia looking for his latest victim is a personal favorite of Quentin Tarantino's and with good reason. With copious amounts of violence and a vicious game of cat and mouse, Torso is sure to meet your Halloween needs. This new Blu-ray features a brand-new 2K restoration of both the 94-minute Italian cut and the 90-minute English cut.

Also hitting shelves on October 30th will be Terry Gilliam's 90's sci-fi classic, Twelve Monkeys. Based off a short film by Chris Marker, Twelve Monkeys opens up in 1996 with a group known as the Army of Twelve Monkeys releasing a deadly virus upon the world. Flash forward to year 2035 where Bruce Willis is ordered to travel back in time to find a cure. Nominated for two Oscars, Twelve Monkeys received rave reviews with Roger Ebert calling it a "celebration of madness and doom." This new Blu-ray features a brand-new 4K restoration approved by Gilliam.

What's that? You want to mix up your October viewing and have a bit of a reprieve from horror? Well, then you're going to want to grab Arrow Academy's Blu-ray release of Distant Voices, Still Lives on October 23rd. This critically-acclaimed debut from Terence Davies allows viewers to peer into the life of a working-class family in 1940's and 1950's Liverpool. This brand-new 4K restoration was carried out by the British Film Institute.

50 Years After Inventing the Zombie Apocalypse, George A. Romero’s ‘Night of the Living Dead’ Returns to Movie Theaters Just Before Halloween

50 Years After Inventing the Zombie Apocalypse,

George A. Romero’s ‘Night of the Living Dead’Returns to Movie Theaters Just Before Halloween

On October 24 & 25 Only, Fathom Events Brings a Newly Restored and Remastered Version of Romero’s Groundbreaking Horror Film Back to Cinemas

A half-century ago, the living dead had their night, but for decades the inexorable dread of George A. Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” has been seen only in murky, fuzzy versions.
On Wednesday, October 24, and Thursday, October 25, only, “Night of the Living Dead” returns to nearly 600 movie theatres nationwide in a newly restored and remastered version presented by Fathom Events, Image Ten Inc. and Living Dead Media, in association with Janus Films and the Criterion Collection. “Night of the Living Dead” will play at 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. (local time) both days, presented through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN).
Commemorating its 50th anniversary, “Night of the Living Dead” will be accompanied by a new behind-the-scenes look at the making of this iconic film. Tickets for “Night of the Living Dead” are available beginning today at www.FathomEvents.com \and participating theater box offices. A complete list of theater locations can be found on the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).
Prior to his death in 2017, Romero supervised the restoration of “Night of the Living Dead” in anticipation of the film’s 50th anniversary. He worked with the film’s sound engineer, Gary Streiner, to restore and remaster the movie in 4K Ultra HD from the original camera negative. The Museum of Modern Art, The Film Foundation, The George Lucas Family Foundation, and The Celeste Bartos Film Preservation Center supported the restoration project.
The film tells the deceptively simple story of a group of strangers trapped in a farmhouse and find themselves fending of a horde of recently dead flesh-eating ghouls. Romero’s claustrophobic vision of a late-1960s America literally tearing itself apart rewrote the rules of the horror genre, combining gruesome gore with acute social commentary, while quietly breaking ground by casting an African-American actor (Duane Jones) in its leading role.
Named one of the 10 best horror films of all time by Rolling Stone, “Night of the Living Dead” continues to influence pop culture and remains loved by films and critics alike: The film holds a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
“There are not many films that warrant the kind of attention ‘Night of the Living Dead’ has received from the Museum of Modern Art, but there are also not many films whose influence remains so strong in global popular culture 50 years after it was made. George A. Romero’s film has never looked better, and we are proud to present this dazzling new restoration to film lovers and horror fans,” said Fathom Events VP of Studio Relations Tom Lucas.
Steve Wolsh, CEO of Living Dead Media, added, “It’s been a two-year labor of love to bring this stunning version of ‘Night of the Living Dead’ into theaters for the 50th anniversary. This movie was intended to be seen in a dark theater with a live audience, and this restoration gives fans and newcomers alike a chance to see the film as they’ve never seen it before.” Please visit the film’s Facebook page for all things “Night of the Living Dead.”

SYNOPSIS

Italian actress-writer-director Asia Argento, daughter of famed genre director Dario, has spent much of her life in the spotlight and under the glare of media scrutiny. In her dark, voyeuristic and semi-autobiographical directorial debut,
SCARLET DIVA, Argento plays Anna Battista, a rising young actress who, despite her popularity and success, experiences despair and degradation at the hands of the film industry. Her harrowing journey towards redemption leads her on a sordid spree of excess across America and Europe while trying to recapture her innocence and find true love.

Newly restored in HD, Scarlet Diva has been applauded by audiences and critics alike since its original release nearly twenty years ago. In his New York Times theatrical review, A.O. Scott called the film "weirdly fascinating... curiously moving" and, for the Los Angeles Times, Manohla Dargis wrote that it "has more guts and energy than much of what will open this year." Joe Bob Briggs said it is "raw, visceral, super-charged with the darkest of dark emotions" and G. Allen Johnson called it an "astounding work" of "full-throated rage against the international filmmaking machine."
