David Bowie & Trevor Jones' Iconic 'Labyrinth' Soundtrack To Be Remastered & Reissued On Vinyl May 12 For First Time Since 1986 Original Release

DAVID BOWIE & TREVOR JONES’ ICONIC LABYRINTH SOUNDTRACK TO BE
REMASTERED AND REISSUED ON VINYL MAY 12 VIA UMe

WATCH/LISTEN:

Extending the 30th anniversary celebration of the beloved film, Labyrinth, Jim Henson’s mesmerizing and enduring fantasy classic, David Bowie and Trevor Jones’ iconic soundtrack will be remastered and reissued on vinyl on May 12 for the first time since its original 1986 release. Long out of print, the album, which was remastered at Capitol Studios, will be available on high quality 120gm black vinyl and include the faithfully replicated original jacket and artwork, including the original EMI America logo and the printed inner sleeve featuring photos of Bowie from the film. Pre-order Labyrinth here: https://UMe.lnk.to/LabyrinthLP

Praised by film critics and moviegoers alike for its astonishing imagery and distinct characters, Labyrinth has been celebrated for being wildly ahead of its time. Directed by Jim Henson and executive produced by George Lucas, the film, which stars David Bowie as Jareth, The Goblin King, is full of memorable creatures brought to life by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop™, working closely with acclaimed artist and conceptual designer Brian Froud.

In a 1986 interview with Movieline, Bowie recalled his first meeting with Henson to discuss the film: "Jim Henson set up a meeting with me while I was doing my 1983 tour in the States, and he outlined the basic concept for Labyrinth and showed me some of Brian Froud's artwork. I'd always wanted to be involved in the music-writing aspect of a movie that would appeal to children of all ages, as well as everyone else, and I must say that Jim gave me a completely free hand with it. The script itself was terribly amusing without being vicious or spiteful or bloody, and it also had a lot more heart than many other special effects movies. So I was pretty well hooked from the beginning.”

Described by The Atlantic as “101 minutes of Bowie rock opera and Hensonian spectacle,” Labyrinth was the second major soundtrack that Bowie worked on, falling between his 16th and 17th studio albums, Tonight and Never Let Me Down. He wrote and recorded five original songs for the film, including "Underground,” “As The World Falls Down” and “Magic Dance” with its famous oft-repeated opening: “You remind me of the babe/What babe? The babe with the power/What power? The power of voodoo/Who do? You do/Do what? Remind me of the babe.” All songs were performed by Bowie except “Chilly Down” which was sung by Charles Augins, Richard Bodkin, Kevin Clash, and Danny John-Jules, the actors who voiced the ‘Firey' creatures in the film. In the aforementioned interview with Movieline around the film and soundtrack’s release, Bowie revealed an obstacle he encountered while recording. “With ‘Dance Magic’ - the song for Jareth and the baby, sung by them and the goblins in the castle throne room - I had problems,” Bowie explained. “The baby I used in the recording studios couldn’t, or wouldn’t, put more than two gurgles together, so I ended up doing the baby-gurgle chorus myself! It’s an up-tempo song, and visually exciting.”

The 12-track soundtrack is rounded out with Trevor Jones’ memorable score. The synth-based instrumentals, described by All Music Guide as “synthesizers blended cautiously into orchestral ensembles to provide a suitably ethereal tone,” represent pivotal moments from the film and include “Into the Labyrinth,” “Sarah” “Hallucination,” “The Goblin Battle,” “Thirteen O'Clock” and “Home at Last.” Jones and Henson previously worked together on the live action fantasy classic, “The Dark Crystal.”

Labyrinth celebrated its 30th anniversary last year and the film and soundtrack have only grown in popularity since its release on June 27, 1986. Last year, a newly restored 4K version of the movie was released back in theaters with a limited engagement theatrical run in the United States giving fans the opportunity to see it back on the big screen. On September 20th, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment released the film on Blu-ray, next-generation 4K Ultra HD™, and as a multi-format 30th Anniversary Collector’s Edition complete with unique “mirrorbox” packaging that included a mini replica of the film’s climactic and iconic final scene. All versions include a host of all-new bonus content and a gorgeous 24-page Digibook filled with rare photos and a look behind the scenes.

THIS JULY, TIME LIFE RELEASES NINE NEW-TO-RETAIL
EPISODES OF "THE TONIGHT SHOW" FEATURING THREE OF CONTEMPORARY COMEDY'S MOST ICONIC PERSONALITIES

THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON:
JOHNNY AND FRIENDS
FEATURING STEVE MARTIN, ROBIN WILLIAMS & EDDIE MURPHY

 Street Date: July 4, 2017

This Collectible 3-Disc Set Features Over Eight Hours of Vintage Carson
from the '70s, '80s and '90s - Some of the Most Cherished Moments from the
30 Year Run of "The Tonight Show" - Including Commercials!

PROGRAM SYNOPSIS

THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON: JOHNNY AND FRIENDS FEATURING STEVE MARTIN, ROBIN WILLIAMS & EDDIE MURPHY contains nine new-to retail shows from the '70s, '80s and '90s featuring three of the most loved guests from "The Tonight Show" -- Steve Martin, Robin Williams and Eddie Murphy.  Each DVD contains complete, unedited shows -- including vintage commercials -- highlighting some of the most cherished moments from 30 years of "The Tonight Show."

DISC 1-STEVE MARTIN

Arguably the best thing that ever happened to young Steve Martin was being temporarily banished as a Tonight Show guest in 1972. Martin was an Emmy-winning writer (The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour) but hadn't worked up quite enough material for himself. Invited back later as a guest host, a more polished Martin clicked.

Original Air Dates:
July 21, 1976: Steve Martin, Jimmy Stewart, Karen Black, and more
May 21, 1982: Steve Martin, Sylvester Stallone
December 19, 1991: Steve Martin, Cathy Ladman, Leon Redbone

DISC 2-ROBIN WILLIAMS

Robin Williams took pleasure in stumping the host with his utter unpredictability and free-association
riffs. Williams' bits ranged across the social spectrum, bouncing off the latest fads and fashions along with ego-deflating commentary about the day's newsmakers. Johnny could not have been having a better time or been more in awe at the comedic juggernaut.

Original Air Dates:

April 3, 1984: Robin Williams, Phyllis Newman
January 10, 1991: Robin Williams, Steve Lawrence
September 19, 1991: Robin Williams, Jonathan Winters, Park Overall

DISC 3-EDDIE MURPHY

Three appearances over a span of seven months in 1982 illustrate Eddie Murphy's vault to superstardom. His debut occurred less than halfway into his first full Saturday Night Live season; by his third appearance, he had become a breakout star, released his Grammy-nominated debut album, and was shooting his first movie.

Original Air Dates:
January 1, 1982: Eddie Murphy, McLean Stevenson
February 10, 1982: Eddie Murphy, Wayne Rogers, Albert Hague
July 30, 1982: Eddie Murphy, Randall "Tex" Cobb, Angela Bofill

ABOUT HEE HAW

Conceived as a rural alternative to Rowan & Martin's "Laugh-In," HEE HAW landed on television in 1969 as a summer replacement series for "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour."  With a cast of characters including Minnie Pearl, Grandpa Jones and Archie Campbell, knee-slapping comedic zingers, and jaw-dropping musical performances, the comedy-variety show, co-hosted by Buck Owens and Roy Clark, captivated the country.  In 1971, after two successful years, CBS dropped the show in an effort to "de-countrify" the network's programming; however, it was quickly picked up and aired for the next 21 years, making HEE HAW the longest-running weekly syndicated original series in television history.

Named by TV Guide as one of the "50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time," "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In," was also one of the most groundbreaking.  A fast moving barrage of rapid-fire one-liners, on-going sketches, musical numbers and hilarious social and political satire, it was an instant hit following its NBC prime-time debut in 1968.  Hosted by Dan Rowan and Dick Martin, the unique variety series - a psychedelic take-off of a '60s-style happening - perfectly captured the spirit of an era, launched the careers of many a comic actor and writer and fed a new generation's conversations with hip catchphrases like "Sock it to me!," "You bet your sweet bippy!," and "Here come da judge!"  "Laugh In" would go on to become one of the most popular shows in the history of television.

Never before available in its entirety on any format, beginning May 9, ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN: THE COMPLETE SERIES will be offered as a deluxe 38-disc collector's set from Time Life and Proven Entertainment with David DiVona.  Featuring all 140 original broadcast episodes plus the pilot, hours of specially-produced extras and featurettes, a bonus disc featuring hours of specially-produced extras, a 32-page collectible memory book featuring "liner notes" from producer/creator George Schlatter and more, ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN: THE COMPLETE SERIES will be available to pre-order exclusively at TimeLife.com/LaughIn for $250.

"'Laugh-In' was a free fall of television without a net.  It was dangerous.
It was controversial. It was totally unpredictable and always funny."
-- George Schlatter

"Laugh-In" originally aired as a one-time special on September 9, 1967, and was such a success that it was brought back as a series, replacing "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." on Mondays at 8pm.  With seasoned comedy team Rowan and Martin presiding over the zippy hour-long variety show which capably mixed sketch comedy and sight gags with trenchant political commentary, the comic regulars resonated loudly and hilariously - Goldie Hawn's giggly blonde, Lily Tomlin's snorting telephone operator, Judy Carne's "Sock-It-To-Me" girl, Jo Anne Worley's anti-chicken-joke militant, Ruth Buzzi's perpetually-frustrated spinster and Arte Johnson's "verrry interesting" German soldier, to name a few.  And over the next six seasons, from 1968-1973, the off-the-wall NBC staple would become a pop culture phenomenon and the #1 rated show during the 1968-69 and 1969-70 television seasons.

The pioneering series -- which would go onto to capture 6 Emmy® Awards (for Outstanding Variety Series, 1971) and 31 nominations, as well as 2 Golden Globe® Awards, including "Best TV Show" (1969) -- can also be remembered by the seemingly endless parade of guest stars who flocked to the red-hot variety show for memorable appearances and cameos including Tim Conway, Bob Newhart, Debbie Reynolds, Liberace, Raquel Welch, Sammy Davis, Jr., Jonathan Winters, Carol Channing, The Monkees, Sonny and Cher, Barbara Feldon, Bobby Darin, Andy Griffith, Diana Ross, James Garner, Michael Landon, Buddy Hackett, Steve Lawrence, Jack Lemmon, Kirk Douglas, Robert Goulet, Flip Wilson, Don Rickles, John Wayne, a ukulele-strumming Tiny Tim and many more.  The series' most famous single moment, however, came in 1968 when presidential candidate Richard Nixon surprised viewers with a brief appearance in which he deadpanned "Sock it to me?," before capturing the White House.

Initially, exclusively available online at TimeLife.com/LaughIn, ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN: THE COMPLETE SERIES commemorates the influential program's landmark 50th anniversary with a handsomely-packaged DVD set from the TV DVD archivists at Time Life.  Across 38 discs and 150+ hours of transformative entertainment, fans of classic TV, comedy and variety will be treated to the series in its entirety for the very first time: all 140 episodes, complete and uncut and remastered from the original broadcast elements for optimal viewing.  89 of the episodes (63%) have never before been released on any format, making this eagerly-anticipated completist's set a valuable - and highly entertaining - collection.

Also included in the collection is the rare pilot episode, a collectible 32-page memory book loaded with archival photos, show images, classic jokes and one-liners, "liner notes" from creator/producer George Schlatter and an exclusive bonus DVD.

The collection includes more than 6 hours of exclusive bonus features including the complete 25th Anniversary Cast Reunion and interviews with Lily Tomlin and George Schlatter that are only available in this complete collection.

Other exclusive bonus features include:
Interviews with Dick Martin, Ruth Buzzi, Gary Owens, Arte Johnson, Alan Sues
The Laugh-In Pilot Episode
Still Laugh-In: A Tribute to George Schlatter
Laugh-In Bloopers
How We Won the Emmys
...and more!
With the combined efforts and input from one of the most talented ensemble casts and the largest, most creative groups of writers, editors, composers, directors, scenic and costume designers ever assembled, "Laugh-In" became an instant classic, transforming pop culture and the medium of television.  And today, 50 years after the show first aired, it remains one of the most memorable and beloved shows in TV history.

Acid Jazz Announce The Best of Rare Mod Box Set || Out Digitally on May 26

The seminal Acid Jazz Records Rare Mod series took its first desert booted steps in 2009 with a selection of 'holy grail' sixties recordings on an album entitled Rare Mod. such was its success that another five LPs followed, plus fourteen eps, four artist albums, two reunion concerts and two box-sets including this one, The Best Of Rare Mod box set. Involving a team of passionate individuals without whom sourcing the material would have been impossible, Damian Jones, Paul 'Smiler' Anderson, label boss Ed Piller and Richard Searle have compiled this triple CD collection of some of the highlight from across the entire series.

Some of the artists featured are more famous or more successful than others, some are sadly no longer with us, but all are equally inspirational; The Artwoods, The Fleur De Lys, Sharon Tandy, Carl Douglas and Geno Washington are familiar names amongst the record collecting in-crowd; The Mountain Men, The Aphex, The Koobas. Kenny Bernard and The Top Six are possibly less so.

From the dancefloor fillers like I'm Out by The Richard Kent Style, soul standards like Rock My Plimsol from the legendary Blockheads bassist Norman Watt-Roy's first band The Ossie Layne Show, through to the wigged out garage R&B of The Mountain Men's Too Many People Around, and the Velvet Underground cover, I'm Waiting For My Man, by David Bowie's first group The Riot Squad. But it's the rediscovered treasures throughout the series that may have remained lost that are perhaps the most interesting; Derek Griffiths (guitarist of The Artwoods), whilst rummaging through a cardboard box, uncovered a forgotten concept album by his jazz-rock outfit, Satisfaction; the flute-tastic House Of The Rising Sun features along with another fantastic track from another of Derek's later bands, Dog Soul, a version of the Eddy Floyd classic Big Bird.

Released on 25th May through Acid Jazz Records,The Best Of Rare Mod CD Boxset contains three CDs accompanied by artwork and extensive sleeve notes. You can pre-order the album on iTunes here.

Oh Boy Records to Release John Prine Beyond Words
Prine's first ever songbook featuring a selection of his favorite songs, photographs, and stories

Oh Boy Records is pleased to announce the release of John Prine Beyond Words, available for purchase via https://johnprine.com on April 18th. Beyond Words includes over 100 photographs from Prine's personal collection, copies of handwritten lyrics showing the creative process with select commentary, and lyrics with guitar chords for 60+ classic Prine songs. Watch the trailer for Beyond Words here. The book retails for $34.98 and is currently available for pre-order with free shipping (within in the U.S.).

For fans of Prine, the general consensus of this release is it's about time, as a songbook has been requested at the merch table for years. Personally curated, the book is for both the studied Prine fan and the next generation of songwriters newly discovering his work. Beyond Words is a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the man No Depression Magazine dubbed "the poet laureate of our everyday experience."

Beyond Words is new territory for both Prine and Oh Boy Records, as this is Prine's first ever songbook and the label's first foray into book publishing. Decidedly indie, Oh Boy was founded in 1981 by Prine and his manager Al Bunetta, and is the second oldest artist owned independent label in the country; the oldest in Nashville.

For your listening pleasure, Oh Boy created a Spotify playlist to complement the content of Beyond Words.
