Oh Boy Records to Release John Prine Beyond Words

Oh Boy Records to Release John Prine Beyond Words
Prine's first ever songbook featuring a selection of his favorite songs, photographs, and stories

Oh Boy Records is pleased to announce the release of John Prine Beyond Words, available for purchase via https://johnprine.com on April 18th. Beyond Words includes over 100 photographs from Prine's personal collection, copies of handwritten lyrics showing the creative process with select commentary, and lyrics with guitar chords for 60+ classic Prine songs. Watch the trailer for Beyond Words here. The book retails for $34.98 and is currently available for pre-order with free shipping (within in the U.S.).

For fans of Prine, the general consensus of this release is it's about time, as a songbook has been requested at the merch table for years. Personally curated, the book is for both the studied Prine fan and the next generation of songwriters newly discovering his work. Beyond Words is a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the man No Depression Magazine dubbed "the poet laureate of our everyday experience."

Beyond Words is new territory for both Prine and Oh Boy Records, as this is Prine's first ever songbook and the label's first foray into book publishing. Decidedly indie, Oh Boy was founded in 1981 by Prine and his manager Al Bunetta, and is the second oldest artist owned independent label in the country; the oldest in Nashville.

For your listening pleasure, Oh Boy created a Spotify playlist to complement the content of Beyond Words.

About Oh Boy Records:
Oh Boy Records is an independent American record label located in Nashville, Tennessee and founded in 1981 by Grammy Award-winning songwriter John Prine and his longtime manager Al Bunetta.  The label has released more than 40 audio and video recordings by singer-songwriters Prine, Kris Kristofferson, Daniel "Slick" Ballinger, Shawn Camp, Dan Reeder, and Todd Snider-- along with a dozen reissues of classic country music artists.

The new Oh Boy label's first release was a red vinyl Christmas single with Prine singing "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" on the A-side and "Silver Bells" on the B-side. The first full-length release was Prine's Aimless Love in 1984. Oh Boy is the second oldest artist owned independent label in the country, and the oldest in Nashville.

TURKISH HORROR FILM “NACIYE”

TURKISH HORROR FILM
“NACIYE”
FLIPS THE SCRIPT ON THE
HOME-INVASION SUB-GENRE

Now Available on VOD and Digital Download on AmazonVideo and Vimeo OnDemand, with Other Platforms Coming Soon!

Award-winning Turkish actress Derya Alabora (“Innocence,” “When We Leave,” “A Most Wanted Man”) stars as the title character “Naciye” (pronounced Na-djee-a) in Lütfü Emre Çiçek’s feature directorial debut “Naciye.”   The film is currently available for digital download and VOD through AmazonVideo and Vimeo OnDemand, and will be released on DVD April 11, 2017.  “Naciye” is distributed by Shami Media Group (SMG).

“Naciye” premiered at ScreamFest LA in October 2015, where it received enthusiastic critical acclaim from both horror-film reviewers and audiences alike.  The film was released theatrically in Turkey in 2016, and is currently on Turkish cable television and streaming services.

“Naciye,” which also stars Esin Harvey and Gorkem Mertsoz, was filmed on location during the off-season on the beautiful Princess Islands off the Marmara Coast of Istanbul, Turkey.  Empty seaside mansions and gorgeous vistas belie the sinister and dangerous events about to unfold. The idyllic scene turns bloody and horrific as the body count quickly grows.

In “Naciye,” a pregnant couple travels for the weekend to check on the house they rented on a whim for the remainder of the pregnancy. On their first night at the secluded home they encounter the dangerous woman who claims to be its rightful owner.

Çiçek was born in Turkey and then moved to the U.S. after high school. Like many teenagers, he grew up watching horror films, and as a filmmaker, he has been influenced by movies like “Rosemary's Baby” and “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle,” as well as the works of Pedro Almodovar.  After he moved back to Turkey, Çiçek pursued his love of filmmaking; his favorite genre, horror films, was a natural choice for his first feature.

“With this movie I wanted to make something that would be familiar to horror fans in its homages to horror movie tropes but maintain its Turkish touches, like the island setting, the soap opera-esque hysteria of the leads, Naciye's style of clothing and the music.” said Çiçek.

Instead of making a Turkish or American horror film, Çiçek made an international horror film influenced by both his Turkish upbringing and love of American Horror films.  The result is a scary, artistic, and unique horror film.  The creative editing and sound-design in the film heighten suspense as tension builds. “Naciye” is accessible for the faint-hearted, while it also satisfies die-hard horror fans with its shocking originality.

The film was written/directed and edited by Çiçek, produced Sonbay Sanat ve Produksiyon Ltd., with stunning cinematography by Kamil Satir.

Oblivion_VHS
OBLIVIONIt’s a futuristic outer space sci-fi Western comedy movie, and if you can’t handle that you’d better take a chill pill. Oblivion pits cowboys against aliens, and surely there won’t be a more epic or popular alien movie that comes out in the next two or three years. This will definitely be remembered as the classic alien movie of the ’90s.
QtheWingedSerpent_VHS
Q The Winged SerpentWith cutting edge stop-motion special effects, Q: The Winged Serpent looks better than any video game could ever dream of! A dragon-like Aztec god lives in the Chrysler Building and he doesn’t even have to pay rent–bogus! Can anyone in New York stop this gnarly monser??
NeverTooYoungToDie_VHS
NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE
This secret agent action flick is all about the actors! The main cast includes two currently relevant musicians, Vanity and Gene Simmons. It might have been hard to recognize Simmons if he hadn’t just recently revealed his face without the KISS makeup. But the real breakout here is John Stamos, who will no doubt be known worldwide as a huge action star in the near future.

THE KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIEYoung director John Landis directs this boss sketch-comedy film spoofing many of your favorite film genres like kung fu, blaxploitation and more. Written by the new comedic team of Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker, Kentucky Fried Movie hints at great things to come from these comedic minds.
Naked-Angels_web
NAKED ANGELSRevenge + motorcycle gangs = excellent! Yuppies should hide their kids from this gnarly tale of outlaw bikers from Roger Corman. Hells Angels actually consulted on the film, so you know it’s not lame!

A REAL JOBThe only thing better than working in a video store is love, and in A Real Job, John St. Clair trades his VHS tapes for a suit and tie in order to impress his new girlfriend. But what will he do when his new job threatens his old video store? Nothing could ever take down VHS, but you’ll suspend your disbelief while watching this great movie!

THE VHS VAULT PART 1

VHS_VAULT_SLEEPAWAY_CAMPSLEEPAWAY CAMPTraumatized and shy Angela Baker gets sent to a totally bogus summer camp that doesn’t even have a Nintendo in Sleepaway Camp. Once she gets there, everything goes super smoothly–NOT. Leave your jean jacket at home so it doesn’t get covered in blood.
VHS_VAULT_NIGHT_OF_THE_DEMONSNIGHT OF THE DEMONSYour Swatch may say it’s time to party, but in Night of the Demons, a bunch of party animals decide to hold a seance in a funeral parlor instead of playing with pogs like normal kids. Their big mistake turns into a totally radical movie for the rest of us to enjoy.
VHS_VAULT_DAY_OF_THE_DEADDAY OF THE DEADFill up a fanny pack with weapons and slap bracelets, because you’re about to take on a world overrun by zombies in Day of the Dead. It follows the story of a small group of military officers and scientists living in an underground bunker without so much as a Poison cassette or a Molly Ringwald movie to entertain them!
VHS_VAULT_CLASS_OF_1984CLASS OF 1984There’s no Brat Pack in Class of 1984, a movie about a school full of thoughtful, obedient students. As if! This movie is all about a lawless high school that would be totally tubular if it weren’t for the drug dealing thugs that have taken it over! It even features an appearance by a promising new upstart named Michael J. Fox.
UnknownEXTERMINATORS OF THE YEAR 3000Parents thought it was the end of the world when kids started wearing side ponytails, Jordache jeans and neon windbreakers, but that’s nothing compared to the gang of motorcycle psychos who run rampant on a post-apocalyptic Earth in Exterminators of the Year 3000! It’s a glorious crash of guns, nuclear fallout and cutting-edge synthesizers!
Adjust-your-tracking
ADJUST YOUR TRACKINGFrankie says relax and watch Adjust Your Tracking, a movie about how awesome VHS is! We all knew that home entertainment couldn’t possibly get any better once we could watch our favorite John Cusack movies whenever we wanted (unless they make a 64-bit video game system, but that technology is way off). Check this film out and learn about your fellow VHS collectors.

The Anti-Christ is Coming… to Kickstarter

The chronicles of the Anti-Christ in a graphic novel.

What if the Anti-Christ wanted no part in the end of the world? This is the question that Samantha, a woman who was genetically engineered by terrorists to bring about the End of Days wants answered. She is a pariah, trying to kill herself, but the devil won’t let her die.

Anti-Christ is a graphic novel written by James Mascia and illustrated by Osiris Junior, with 2 covers by Daniel Leister (Hack/Slash) and Mike Crome (Zenescope). Originally appearing as a successful webcomic on Webtoon.com, Dren Productions is now running a Kickstarter to put it into print. Our goal is to print 1,000 copies to fulfill backer rewards and have stock left over to bring to conventions for the next year.

It is our goal at Dren Productions to provide quality stories with great artwork to our fans, and Anti-Christ has gotten great reviews from both fans and critics. @kleffnotes from The Nerdy Girl Express said, "...what I loved was that the audience is learning alongside Samantha. We don’t know entirely what led to her creation or how she was able to survive..."

We are offering backers of this project, not only copies of the book, but also the chance to have the author, James Mascia, write a comic script for you. The length of the script will be determined by the level of the pledge. There are other great rewards planned as well, including extra incentive rewards for early backers.

The Kickstarter went live on April 3rd, 2017. We ask that people check out our page, and if they cannot pledge, to share our campaign on their social media with the #AntiChrist as a hashtag. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/drenproductions/1490631671?token=78b1dc1c

James Mascia is the writer of several comics including The Poe Murders and High School Heroes, as well as many stories including The Curse of Frankenstein and City of Darkness.

Dren Productions is a publishing company committed to providing quality, sci-fi, fantasy and horror to our fans, with a little humor on the side. We want all our fans to “live the dream.”

UMe SET TO REISSUE THE SUPREMES A’ GO-GO

UMe SET TO REISSUE THE SUPREMES A’ GO-GO IN DELUXE, EXPANDED, TWO-CD EDITION WITH OUTTAKES, RARE MONO & VOCAL MIXES, DUET, APRIL 28

The group’s first-ever #1 album (and first by an all-female group) featured the chart-topping “You Can’t Hurry Love” and covers of fellow Motown artists’ hits, new version includes covers of Dylan, Rolling Stones

By the time Motown released The Supremes A’ Go-Go, the group’s ninth studio album, on August 25, 1966, the group had already scaled the charts with hits like “Where Did Our Love Go?,” “Baby Love,” “Come See About Me,” “Stop! In the Name of Love,” “Back in My Arms Again” and “I Hear a Symphony.”

The Supremes A’ Go-Go solidified Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard’s hold on the American and global marketplace, the first of their albums to go to #1 on the Billboard 200, marking the first LP by an all-female group to do so, spawning two Top 10 hits in the #1 “You Can’t Hurry Love” and the #9 “Love Is Like an Itching in My Heart.”  The album also featured the trio tackling an array of hit cover material, mostly from their Motown stablemates the Four Tops, the Temptations, Martha & the Vandellas, Barrett Strong and the Isley Brothers, but also contemporary hitmakers Nancy Sinatra (Lee Hazlewood’s “These Boots are Made for Walkin’”) and the McCoys (Bert Berns and Wes Farrell’s Brill Building chestnut “Hang on Sloopy”).

UMe will now reissue the classic album in a deluxe, expanded two-CD edition, featuring the original 12 tracks, featuring both the stereo album, along with rare mono album mixes, alternative vocal versions and mixes, as well as a duet of “Shake Me Wake Me (When It’s Over)” with the Four Tops. There are also rarely heard album outtakes, such as covers of fellow ‘60s stalwarts Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind” and the Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satsifaction.”

The Supremes A’ Go-Go remained on the Billboard chart for 60 weeks, going on to sell 3.5 million around the world, including one million in the U.S., knocking off The Beatles’ Revolver from the top spot for the honors. It also went to #15 in the U.K. album charts, with “You Can’t Hurry Love” peaking at #3 on the U.K. singles chart.

The production represented the peak of the fabled Motown team, headed by producers Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier, the Funk Brothers and even the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on hand.

This expanded edition will also contain two 24-page booklets. The first chronicles the album’s production and success, as well as a timeline, and both rare and never-before-seen photos. The second booklet is a recreation of the Supremes 1966 tour book.

Said All Music’s Bruce Eder about the album, referring to its winning formula of having The Supremes cover Motown’s greatest hits: “In fact, back in the days when vinyl was the only game in town, used copies of this record sold faster and better than any of their other common '60s LPs, and for good reason.”
